    The signature landmark of Dresden is the Frauenkirche, the Church of Our Lady. It is one of the most talked about German buildings in the recent past.

    In World War II, air-raids wiped out Dresden, destroying many historic buildings and churches. Among them was the Frauenkirche, which collapsed into a 42 feet high pile of rubble; the ruins were left untouched for 40 years, a reminder of the destructive powers of war.

    Dresden was on our way to Prague so we thought we would look at the old city, and the church they had to rebuild after the serious bombing during the war. We had a walk around, saw some great historic buildings and had a beer. It was a lovely city but me and Roy were both hot now, so we pushed on to Prague to find a hotel.

    ... heading south. It’s certainly part of the way of life in the south of Germany to settle in to a huge bowl of ice cream covered by whipped cream and chocolate at any time of day.

    Good hostel in Dresden and had really good room mates. First an Aussie girl and she wanted lights out and to go to sleep at 10. Then when she left a Dutch girl shared the room and she was in bed by 8!!!!! Great to share a room with people that want to ...

    -L took a well earned nap while I took the ferry to go c the town. Quaint w hikes n river promenade n the only bad thing is the busy road through the center. Cute town though n worth exploring.

    ... town of Pirna then got a train back. Pirna was a typical larger town with many charming old buildings, town square, cobblestone walkways, churches etc, so hard to take! The public transport in this country is most efficient, back to our hotel was so easy. Sunday was a much more strenuous day.
