Welcome To Vietnam

We are now in crazy Saigon. The trip was very short form Siem Reap on Vietnam Airlines..The airport here has just been redone..so it looks very modern...Once we met up with our driver, we headed to the car and battled the traffic for 45 minutes for an 8 km ride. Motorcycles are everywhere..4 million in all for the city..It seemed like they were all on our road. We finally arrived at our hotel; The Equitorial..a very nice hotel but a little outside the main area of the city. We checked in, dro...

Mekong Delta

Woke up at 5am and started getting ready for the new day..all batteries were now charged are ready to get alot of use for our Mekong Delta tour. After breakfast we met up with our guide for the day about 8:20am. We hopped in the car and fought traffic for the next hour just to get out of the city. Once that chore was done we had about another hour to hour and a half to go before we arrived at our boat. As we headed south we started to see more bicycles than motorbikes with a slower lifestyle....

Cu Chi Tunnels

Early start a little after 7am this morning to head for the Cu Chi Tunnels and Tay Ninh; the birthplace of Cao Dai religion (a fusion of Buddhism,Islam,Taoism,Confucianism,Chri stianity and native Vietnamese beliefs). Another long ride and a most bumpy road to to the tunnels, but arrived early before all the tour buses arrived. We spend an hour walking around and learning about the tunnel systems and all the bobby-traps that were set in the jungle. I would have never wanted to step foot in th...

Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City- a city of 5 million mopeds. I wasn't very impressed with the city. It seemed to be just another overcrowded Asian city with snarled traffic(almost all moped) and dilapidated buildings. I was pleasantly surprised however to discover that the Equatorial Hotel had one of the most fantastic dinner buffets I have ever encountered. This was certainly the highlight of the Saigon Experience. I recommend getting out of the cities as much as possible when travelling in Vietnam as the ...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Equatorial Ho Chi Minh City

In need of a update

from 11mon
Stayed here for two nights on business. The hotel is exactly the same as the Equatorial in Penang in bedroom decor, and facilities. The carpets have seen much better days, and likewise the bathroom shower could have benefited from someone cleaning the mould from around the bath.

Ok for a couple of nights, but not a good area for strolling around as there is nothing to see or do..

restaurant ok...staff helpful..

Necessita di essere rimodernato

from 11mon

Ristorante soddisfacente... personale cordiale...

Necesitando una actualización

from 11mon

restaurante, bien.... personal, servicial....

A true gem

from Nick_From_Manchester
This was my first visit to Vietnam and I didn't know what to expect from hotel accommodation. I was extremely surprised. Spacious rooms, extremely clean and comfortable. The large rooftop pool, with swim up bar, provided a welcome retreat from the afternoon city heat. Breakfast was 5 star UK / US standard; pleny of variety from the buffet, recognising that they have to cater for a cross section of nationalities. It is a $2 cab ride to the central areas (District 1) but the standard of accommodation, service and food more than made up for the journey. Would definately stop there again.

Very Nice Hotel

from svrtacic
I just returned from the Equatorial in Hochiminh City, Vietnam. I was there for a large tournament being held in the city not for vacation. The hotel turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It was very clean and sanitary. The hotel staff was friendly and helped as much as possible. The rooms were nicely sized and the bathroom was large. I liked having the in room safe to keep my valuables. The rooftop pool was a nice feature, but having to go down a floor and through a change room just to get to the hot tub was annoying. The restaurant on the main floor had a nice but expensive buffet. I ate mostly at this location; the other two restaurants saw little business and were always empty. The hotel is a little ways away from the city centre, but the free hotel shuttle was great. It took us to the market and to some temples. Overall the hotel was a very good experience. There is nothing major to complain about. I enjoyed my stay and trip to Vietnam.

Excellent, five stars to this hotel

from Helsinki
We actually didn´t have our hopes up for this hotel, but it was just marvelous. We stayed here over a week. Very clean hotel, with all things you can ask. Room service, bar in the lobby, three great restaurants in the hotel. Swimmingpool is open till late. Also a poolsidebar. Excellent service, to be honest, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Location in Cholon(the chinese part of HCMC) is excellent, taxi to District 1 costs at most 30 000 dong(1,5euro, 2 USdollars). Breakfast was awsome(Japanese, American, European, Vietnamise cousines). Go to Equatorial and walk out as a new person.

Surprisingly nice

Compared to the other western hotels in Saigon, this one is a bit out of the way in a neighborhood with no attraction. But if you want a good price, comfort and don't mind the 5 minute cab ride back to the heart of the city, consider staying at the Equatorial. I was there for three days. The room was as clean and nice as any above average hotel in the states and the service professional and friendly. My rate included a decent breakfast. They've got a working gym (with cocky male attendants), a sauna and a small outside pool next to an outdoor cabana style bar. It's not as large and convenient as the New World but it's a good alternative.

Not for the light sleeper

In need of a renovation, this hotel is in district 5 away from the main area of HCM City. If you don't mind the traffic and single pane windows, you will be fine.

At $60/night, it was worth the price...
