As I reach the end of my Asia trip, I am not only becoming more lackadaisical in my journaling, but less patient with my traveling companions. I think back to the first days I was traveling alone—feeling lonely, intimidated, frustrated and a little scared, and if I'm being honest, I think that a large part of me prefers that feeling to the …
My very old friend from Facebook
This morning I do sushi ... I have Japanese rice, rice vinegar, fish egg ...some other stuffs from Tokyo shop, and I though it should be easy!
I'm wrong, not easy, sushi had sweated me ... a lot!
Red fish egg, black sesame ,crab stick, avocado, cucumber ...!
My colleague tried and said better with …
Oriental - empty restaurant
I don't know why restaurants on the 2nd floor are always empty at Equatorial.
Before Japanese and Chinese restaurants, and now all in one - Oriental, nice decoration but we've been there twice - first time only 4 of us, this afternoon - around 6 or 7guests !
Food is good, price is acceptable for the hotel, but no customers.
Take that, Nesat! My trip to the River of Dragons
It was a narrow escape, but I left Typhoon Nesat only hours in my wake as I departed for Ho Chi Minh City. The Typhoon pummelled the coasts of China and the Philippines before making it's way towards northern Vietnam. Last I heard, it sort of fizzled out, but they are now preparing for the arrival of Typhoon Nalgae next week.

Welcome To Vietnam
We are now in crazy Saigon. The trip was very short form Siem Reap on Vietnam Airlines..The airport here has just been redone..so it looks very modern...Once we met up with our driver, we headed to the car and battled the traffic for 45 minutes for an 8 km ride. Motorcycles are everywhere..4 million in all for the city..It seemed like they were all …

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Equatorial Ho Chi Minh City
In need of a update
Stayed here for two nights on business. The hotel is exactly the same as the Equatorial in Penang in bedroom decor, and facilities. The carpets have seen much better days, and likewise the bathroom shower could have benefited from someone cleaning the mould from around the bath.
Ok for a couple of nights, but not a good area for strolling around as there is nothing to see or do..
restaurant ok...staff helpful..
Ristorante soddisfacente... personale cordiale...
restaurante, bien.... personal, servicial....
A true gem
This was my first visit to Vietnam and I didn't know what to expect from hotel accommodation. I was extremely surprised. Spacious rooms, extremely clean and comfortable. The large rooftop pool, with swim up bar, provided a welcome retreat from the afternoon city heat. Breakfast was 5 star UK / US standard; pleny of variety from the buffet, recognising that they have to cater for a cross section of nationalities. It is a $2 cab ride to the central areas (District 1) but the standard of accommodation, service and food more than made up for the journey. Would definately stop there again.
Very Nice Hotel
I just returned from the Equatorial in Hochiminh City, Vietnam. I was there for a large tournament being held in the city not for vacation. The hotel turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It was very clean and sanitary. The hotel staff was friendly and helped as much as possible. The rooms were nicely sized and the bathroom was large. I liked having the in room safe to keep my valuables. The rooftop pool was a nice feature, but having to go down a floor and through a change room just to get to the hot tub was annoying. The restaurant on the main floor had a nice but expensive buffet. I ate mostly at this location; the other two restaurants saw little business and were always empty. The hotel is a little ways away from the city centre, but the free hotel shuttle was great. It took us to the market and to some temples. Overall the hotel was a very good experience. There is nothing major to complain about. I enjoyed my stay and trip to Vietnam.
Excellent, five stars to this hotel
We actually didn´t have our hopes up for this hotel, but it was just marvelous. We stayed here over a week. Very clean hotel, with all things you can ask. Room service, bar in the lobby, three great restaurants in the hotel. Swimmingpool is open till late. Also a poolsidebar. Excellent service, to be honest, one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Location in Cholon(the chinese part of HCMC) is excellent, taxi to District 1 costs at most 30 000 dong(1,5euro, 2 USdollars). Breakfast was awsome(Japanese, American, European, Vietnamise cousines). Go to Equatorial and walk out as a new person.
Surprisingly nice
Compared to the other western hotels in Saigon, this one is a bit out of the way in a neighborhood with no attraction. But if you want a good price, comfort and don't mind the 5 minute cab ride back to the heart of the city, consider staying at the Equatorial. I was there for three days. The room was as clean and nice as any above average hotel in the states and the service professional and friendly. My rate included a decent breakfast. They've got a working gym (with cocky male attendants), a sauna and a small outside pool next to an outdoor cabana style bar. It's not as large and convenient as the New World but it's a good alternative.
Not for the light sleeper
In need of a renovation, this hotel is in district 5 away from the main area of HCM City. If you don't mind the traffic and single pane windows, you will be fine.
At $60/night, it was worth the price...
