Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Enterprize Melbourne

Adequate, though not exciting

from anonymous

The superior twin double we booked on is huge. Being the "top tier" of the rate, however, we find it strange that breakfast was not included. Anyway, there are decent cafes everywhere in Melbourne and we have no difficulties whatsoever. Room is clean, furniture a bit dated but functional, service is OK, the only down side is the shower. I was barely able to get my body wet with this poorly-designed shower head, while it kept spreading water drops over my face and head. (No shower cap provided, bring your own if necessary.) Location is great, tram stops right in front, 10 mins walk fr Sky Bus terminal. All tours pick up from the Holiday Inn on Flinders a few steps from Hotel Enterprize.

Bad encounter

from anonymous

My friends and I stayed at the hotel from 22 Nov to 28 Nov 05. Although the location of the hotel is good, we can't say the same for the staff. They were very unprofessional and unhelpful in attending to our requests. They even misplaced (lost) a document which we placed under their care!

We wouldn't recommend the hotel to our friends.

Wouldn't stay here again

from artemis1

We stayed here for 4 nights in November and were very disappointed. The room bore no resemblance to the budget room on the web site. It was old, felt grubby, furniture was very dated, window was dirty, and out of the 2 lights in the room, only one worked. You would think housekeeping would have noticed. When the other one blew 2 days later, we had to wait until the next day for them to get hold of another bulb!

However, although the bathroom was very dated too, the shower was powerful and this was a blessing.

We were pleased with ourselves as we had booked ahead months adn got a very good price. In hindsight I should have realised there was a catch to it and that we would get the worst room available.

Great handy hotel for melbourne

yes have stayed at the hotel on a couple of occasions while visiting melbourne great for the tourist handy for all transport in and out of melboune a bit noisy while the construction of spencer st station is under going a major change . yes the staff are very friendly the rates are good value and the food is of good standard and moderately priced. would recomend this handy clean hotel to friends .

Good value, bit noisy if you want a lie-in though!

I arrived at 3am, but the desk staff was still helpful and chatty (maybe a little too much so as I was ready for my bed!).

I stayed in a courtyard room, which felt somewhat like a motel room as the large windows faced outwards in the communal courtyard area. Also, this made for a lot of disturbance in the morning. After my 3am arrival I wanted a lie-in, but was woken by noisy guests outside, and then when they'd cleared off, noisy domestic staff outside kept me awake. This wasn't too much of a problem on subsequent mornings as I had to get up early!

Breakfast was very good, and was included in the price (although a colleague who had booked separately from me and was in a superior room didn't get breakfast included). Eggs and bacon plus beans, mushrooms, croissants, toast, tea, coffee fruit juices.

Staff were polite and helpful, I was loaned a hairdryer for the whole of my 5 day stay.

Location was ideal, close to the convention centre which was good for me as I was attending a conference there. Also within walking distance of the centre, train stations and the sky bus terminal.

Bargain!

This place represents incredible value for money. Our room was admittedly a superior one but it was absolutely huge. Very quiet and spotlessly clean. Agree with comments about the shower being more of a mist but still better than in some hotels at this price. The location is brilliant, just a short walk from where the Sky Bus drops you at the station and right by the free circle tram stop too. Staff very helpful and friendly. The hotel has rather a grand feel to it, from the huge open fire in reception to the general feeling of space throughout the building. Price-wise, this place is absolutely unbeatable.

Great Little Hotel

We stayed at the Hotel Enterprize for six nights and were thrilled with the accommodations. Located just five minutes walking from Spencer Street Station (where the Airporter shuttle drops off), it was very close to the Yarra River waterfront complex and to Flinders Street Station. The small room was quiet (even though it overlooked busy Spencer Street) and clean. The bathroom was immaculate, although the shower provided less of a "shower" and more of a "mist," the result of Melbourne's water usage restrictions. We booked through an online provider and got breakfast thrown in, which turned out to be one of the hotel's best features. We got eggs and bacon, along with a buffet offering beans, mushrooms, stewed tomatoes, toast, croissants, muffins, fruit, and juice. Breakfast also runs from 6:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., meaning we were able to partake on our first, letlagged morning there (when we woke up late at 10 a.m.) and our last (when we had to leave by 6:45 a.m. to catch a flight). Desk staff was friendly and helpful, too. I would definitely recommend the Hotel Enterprize (and its breakfast) to Melbourne-bound travelers.

Functional

from anonymous

We had a 4 night stay in May 2004 and were very satisfied.Very handy for the Aussie rules stadium (hotel was full when we were there due to a game, book in advance ) and casino with all its bars and restaurants, rooms were clean and spacious. Melbourne taxi drivers are unlike any other in the world i have come across, 5 trips not one knew where they were going and all were ignorant in the extreme, get the tram.

Pretty good

Melbourne - First day of WorldCon

Not much to talk about today, got up, had breakfast and donated the stuff I haven't finished to the "Free Food" shelf at the hostel kitchen. Talked a bit with my friends at the hostel, then took the shuttle to the airport. Since I had obviously not been very successful in packing, my suitcase came at 25 kgs but luckily for me, the Virgin Blue agent …

We always enjoy a stay in Melbourne. There is something about the city that makes it feel as though we have had a European mini holiday. Our hotel was right near the station in Spencer Street, so just a walk from the Skybus stop.

It was an enjoyable interlude before returning home. Best of all was the coffee - so good, and so cheap …

After a week of packing and preparations (that would be Paul--my preparations only took 4 hours of frantic packing and no sleep the night before), a bachelorette party, a wedding shower, and marathon shopping, the day had finally come. We woke up excited and ready to go. Since our flight wasn't until 5:00 p.m., we spent the day fidgeting and …
