Angkor Wat

... corner. Eventually after exploring everywhere we emerged at the back of the whole complex, and descended some steps to the grass below. In the distance, down a long straight path through a forest directly aligned with the centre of the temple, we spotted another small temple building. We wandered off towards it and soon emerged in a clearing, surrounded by towering trees, with the temple in front of us. There was no one else around and the atmosphere was serene; it definitely evoked ...

... advertised cold drinks at reasonable prices and lunch with free fruit salad for dessert. Once you agree to go to Restaurant #5 with her, she accompanies you all the way to your seats and fetches your drinks to ensure you are captive. Once you've cracked open your can of beer, she discreetly pulls back and returns to the road to get more customers... why mix sales and delivery? There was none of the whiny "buy from me" approach, it was a pure pre-emptive ...

To Help The People of Cambodia...

When I booked my trip to Cambodia, I knew it was a poor country, and a beautiful one. The only thing that is more beautiful than the sugar palms dotted amongst the rice fields is the spirit of the people. They are so beautiful, with hearts that are open and giving without limits. Their concern is for our happiness, despite the total lack of basic things on their part. <br><br>Cambodia is the 8th poorest country in the world according to ...

Wowwwww the Temples of Angkor are freakin amazing!

Our intro to Cambodia was a bit hellish. We got into Siem Reap at about 8.30pm in the dark and the bus dropped us off in this blimmen alleyway in the middle of nowhere. Then tonnes of tuk tuk drivers harassed us "miss, you want tuk tuk, miss I have good deal for you." It was MADNESS!<br><br>In the end we found a good place to stay for $12 a night with AC, private bathroom and nice soft beds.<br><br>Cambodia is definitely a lot better and ...

The Kingdom of Cambodia

31st July 2009<br>After the crossing we went out for some food, I must admit I had pizza as I was feeling pretty rough and wanted something normal and went for a drink, many of the restaurants sell a glass of 7.5% beer which is less than a pint and more than a half for $0.50! Very pleased. Whilst sat drinking, who should walk past but some friends from uni ...

Ancient temples galore!

... My one complaint about the region was the persistant shop keepers and freelance artists that would pester tourists to buy their wares. I quickly learned to just ignore them and avoid eye contact at all costs. After hours of temple climbing and exploring I had worn myself out. I met up with Kim at this outdoor restaurant where he had been snoozing on a hammock. I ate some curry fish then we started driving back to town. <br><br>On our way out I asked Kim if he knew where I could see some ...

... eateries - for want of a better word - where several kids, desperate to make a few bucks, were assembled. As soon as I pondered, deciding which one to choose to buy an enticing coconut from, they all rushed over and yelled:<br>'Buy from me! Buy from me!' as they encircled me with their appeal with eyes shining.<br>It was an appeal, yes, but a totally unaggressive one. I called the shots. So much for children here being thieves. I can tell you that there's umpteen ...

... at all &#8211; shocker I had pancakes and jasmine tea DK had scrambled eggs and they said it was coffee but the jury is still out on that one. We never actually finished our meals. We had to wait for Mr Savay to finish his breakfast so I went outside to talk to 2 cute kids who was waving at me to come out of the restaurant and buy postcards off her. I guess they weren&#8217;t allowed in because when I waved her in she wouldn&#8217;t come. So anyway I went to buy ...

That's not a road

... at the Poste Restante. We had decided that the moment it arrived we would rush off to some island down south and soak up the sun for the last few days before our flight to San Francisco. Every day I would take the half hour river boat trip from Banglamphu to the Riverside Shopping Complex, near the area where the imposing GPO is located. The grey water was choppy, with all the unsettled weather, and was bobbing with flotsam. A dead dog, all bloated, passed by the boat one ...
