Historical Traveler Reviews Enigma Apartments & Suites Fira
My husband and I stayed at Enigma during our honeymoon, from August 9-12. I have been to Santorini before, but had never stayed on the Caldera. The apartment we stayed in (#5) was absolutely beautiful. It had the most breathtaking view (of the ocean and the volcano), it was cleaned from top to bottom daily, and it was designed in the traditional Santorini style. Heidi (from the hotel) was also amazing. She had many wonderful suggestions for us, especially the Thalassa sailboat cruise! It took us to the volcano, the hot springs, and to Oia to watch the sunset from the boat, plus they had a lovely wine and appetizer table set up as we sailed to watch the sunset! This hotel is fantastic, and the breakfast Filipe created every morning was undeniably the best we had during our entire honeymoon! Freshly squeezed orange juice, croissants, coffee (we always had Frappe), fresh baked rolls, jams, cheese and meats! Enigma is centrally located in Fira-- you are next to everything (restaurants, shops, taxi, and buses)! I definitely recommend Enigma apartments for your stay in Santorini, especially if you would also like to have an unforgettable experience on the most romantic island of Greece. I would also like to add that we unfortunately lost many pictures from our trip (digital camera technical difficulties), but upon e-mailing Heidi, she was amazing once again! She took pictures and mailed them to us immediately! Now we can show our family and friends where we stayed! Thank you to Heidi and everyone at Enigma for being the best hosts we have ever had!
Loved the Enigma Apartments and Staff!
My friend and I stayed at the Enigma Apartments from July 29 through August 7. When we first got there, the staff welcomed us and made us feel at home. The apartment was beautiful and clean and the view was something that you would need to experience and cant really describe. Antonis,Heidi and another kind gentleman were very kind and generous and helped us with every request. We were also welcomed by the beautiful cats that kept us company at our balcony! I would clearly stay here again without hesitation. This is my third time in Santorini, and clearly the best place I have stayed at Santorini!!! I look forward to staying there again next summer!!!!
Everything about our trip to Santorini was unforgetable. The location of the Enigma is perfect, right in the middle of Fira but quiet at night. We stayed in one of the jacuzzi suites and it was fantastic sitting in the tub watching the sunset with a glass of wine. If you say in Fira, don't forget to check out 'Lucky's Gyros' wich is a couple of blocks from the Enigma. Truly the best gyros in all of Greece!
Awesome experience with great staff
This was absolutely everything we expected! Breakfast in the morning was a selection of meats and cheeses with coffee, juice, rolls, cucumber slices and a soft boiled egg. Service was great and we even asked to have it on the table outside our room one morning. Heidi was great at the front desk and made lots of helpful suggestions and even a reservation for a car for the day. The view is outstanding. We rented a jaccuzi suite for one night which was one on the bottom of the complex. The stairs winded you for a minute when you reached the top. Then we transfered to a studio which was at the very top. We enjoyed both very much. A bottle of water and Santorini white wine was stocked free of charge for us to enjoy while watching the goreous sunsets. I would definitely return to the Enigma Apartments again. The location was right in the heart of all the action, yet it was very quiet. While we only had a car for one day, parking would be tough. Generally about 4 blocks from the apartments. A taxi can drop you from the airport about 50 yards from the Enigma apartments.
I've had a lovely time!
We stayed in Enigma Apartments in July 2004 for 4 nights.
We had a wonderfull time, in the morning we were taking our breakfast on our balcony (which had a beautiful view over the sea and the volcano) or at the cafe above the hotel. The stuff was really friendly and Heidi (the manager) was extremely helpful and answered all our questions, she helped us out by telling us what we had to see and where we had to go. The Enigma Apts are in the city, 3 minutes walking distance of everything you can think of (fancy restaurants, shopping, clubbing, relaxing by drinking an iced coffee) but still it is so quiet! When you are in your room or on your terrace you feel like you're in heaven! I can't wait to stay in the new jacuzzi suites! I really enjoyed it and recomend it to all of you!
Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday
A friend recommended the Enigma Apartments to us and we are glad that we tried it for ourselves. We stayed there last week for three nights in a studio and loved it. The views are unbeatable and the rooms are great. The location is brilliant, at one end of a main pedestrian avenue, and is really close to good restaurants. Also it is less than a 5 min walk to the bus station, where you can get a ride to Ia (to watch the sunsets) and Kamari (to swim on the black volcanic sand beach). The studio was pretty spacious, with a fully-equipped kitchenette. Breakfast in the cafe upstairs is great too, just watch out for the black cat with sharp claws who likes to sit on laps! There's no pool, which would be good if you were there in peak summer, but since we were there in October, it wasn't a problem to get on a bus for 15mins down to Kamari for a swim.
Wonderful stay !!!
We've been to Enigma Apartments for a week, and we've spent a excellent stay there. The rooms are clean and very fine, the hotel is pleasant and so is the island. We're looking forward going back there soon. We recommand it to everyone who wants to rest and enjoy Santorini island and the amazing landscape
If this was not heaven............
Just you and God! Absolute silence, where the blue of the Aegean meets the blue of the Greek sky and the wildness of the volcano. In a nicely decorated room, giving you the sence of comfort, same as what you have been receiving from the very first minute you arrive in Enigma, this charmfull hotel appts. Did this make you think that Enigma is far from the lively village of Fira? Well, I too, never ever expected to find peace so next to everything I needed. The market, transportation, galleries, you name it. It's all there. I will deffinitely come back next year.
PARADISE WITHIN A PARADISE
I was walking through Fira town shortly after arriving in Santorini and went to have a coffee at a cliffside cafe. The scenery was truly magnificent overlooking the volcano and the blue mediterranean sea. The waitress told me this cafe was part of the Enigma appartments and I could stay in one of there appartments if I wished. And that is what I did. Each morning I woke to the truly magnificent view, after a wonderful sleep in the surprisingly quiet surroundings. Everything I wanted to do (shopping, swimming, dining) was within walking distance of the hotel, and the staff were extremely friendly and polite.
I will be sure to stay there again when I return to Greece which hopefully will be before too long
All i expected
I am following up Trip advisor checking out for the best places in Greece. This summer a friend suggested that i stay in Enigma apts in Fira town,on the cliff. He told me of the most fantastic view to the volcano, the elegantly furnished apts of the complex, the genuine services and most of all while in the heart of Fira, so quiet. I was looking for this combination. I found all that to be exactly true. Leaving my apartment and the hotel i was in the heart of things, shops, galleries, taxi and bus station. Enigma stuff was friendly, helpful, breakfast every morning on the balcony of my apartment or in the lovely cafe in the terrace was far than tasteful. Going every day to the beaches and coming back to the quietness of my apt was all that i wished for this summer.

Hello! Sorry I have not updated for a little while.. having too much fun!
Friday at 6:30 am we took the 45 min flight from Athens to the island of Santorini. We got to our hotel around 7:30 and the whole island was so quiet! Nobody really gets up and moving there until about 9:00. So we had a good walk around and decided to rent a quad. …
... and don’t need anymore thankyou! LOL
Very warm today. Predicted a top of 27 but reckon it’s much warmer than that. Sat in the sun for a while the others. The pool was very refreshing when I plunged in to cool off. Peter’s enjoying his daily routine of Bloody Mary’s around the pool/spa making many new friends too.
Pedicure booked for 4pm so after I enjoyed the frozen fruit kebab by ...
... people uphill all day, although apparently the last ride down in the afternoons is entertaining as the donkeys head for home! We a happy we get them when they are fresh. The Greek man who escorts our group is completely humorless and is all hurry-up. Paul tries to make conversation with him but he is having no part of any of it! Nevertheless, we enjoy ourselves enormously despite the fact that Paul's donkey is determined to rub the rubber off the sides of his boots by going as close to ...
... then more shopping.
Fira is built on a steep cliff. The only ways to get down to the harbor and boat tender are to ride a donkey, walk or take a cable car. Last week we just walked up to the cable car and got on. But, with five cruise ships touring the island, the line for the cable car down to the boat tenders was very long so we decided to go ahead and go ...
... John, and I began our first day of exploration on the isle.
We walked through the narrow sidewalks, which are lined by houses, shops, and restaurants. We walked to the highest part of "Thera" the main village, in order to get a perfect view of the incredible blue water filled caldera. We wandered through the city market, noticing that there were too many tourists for such a small island. After a few hours of weaving in and out of the cruise ship touring groups, ...
