A good location. Some traffic sounds pass through the walls and windows non-stop. Good service.

Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

I think it may have failed quite miserably, it kind of kept falling over, but we did have cardboard to sleep on which was somewhat comfortable! We had a lot of fun in the Como area. We hiked a few mountains. We completed another dare of busking. We weren't quite sure how we would do it, but found a bucket ...

... the way til north of Milan with 5 miles to go to Como.

The landscape was fundamentally flat, until the stark contrast of abruptly jutting mountains to the north became clearer, above in the background, and the treasures that lay between them be lakes - and some of the most wondrous scenery (and food!) the world doth know.

As you leave the farmland behind and cross between the mountains ...

... the walk that allows you to see into Switzerland, and more importantly, have a look at George Clooney's villa. As soon as we started walking the wind died down. We were able to get through the walk without rain, which was really nice. It definitely felt like fall up on the mountain, the trees were starting to turn color. Just as we finished our walk and got back to the funicular, it started spitting rain. By the time we were back in Como it was completely raining ...
