... Carlos, also opened a couple of wonderful bottles of wine which he makes. It was wonderful, and very fun to chat with everyone from around the world. After dinner we were treated to some great Port Wine from the quinta (aged 20 years). It was also great. I stayed and talked with a few of the guests for some time, and then off to bed. The next morning we had a wonderful breakfast, and then the couple from Belgium (who were the most ...
Pinhao, Northern Portugal, Portugal rlsanderOn our last full day in Portugal, really the last full day of the European part of our holiday we headed to Guimaraes for a day trip. We started by attempting to see inside the Se (Cathedral) which is literally across the road from our apartment. Having stayed here for 4 days already, we picked a time to see it when there was a mass being conducted so we were unable to see inside. We headed down to Sao Bento station but as there was an hour before our train we sat in ...
Guimarães, Portugal guykb... took me one and a half day... i partly cycled during the night...really nice no cars! and beautiful views from the hills + sunset!). Also some friends who I met earlier on my biketour visited me here. I camped with Joao nearby a beautiful river and I have spend full moon with Lucia and Alegria. Lucia and me slept outside and we watched the moon all night!
Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal pintasI have just set my project's engines in motion, by making the final decision on it and letting the information out. And the project is this: I intend to start from some point along the Galician border in the north of Portugal and walk all the way to the Mediterranean coast in the south. Of course I can not claim that I will make it, as I am not sure there will be enough time, enough strenght, enough disposition or enough good ...
Porto, Portugal rseldinJust got back from a port wine tasting at a fantastic place called 'maison du port' owned by a french guy. I got a great lesson in port and tried alot of different kinds, so I am having trouble typing.....Porto is another beautiful old city on the Douro river, an old trading town. More old buildings built tightly together on steep hills. Beautiful delis full of ...
Porto, Portugal triptalk... corpse of some martyr). Outside we enjoyed strolling through the well-kept gardens. No sprouts yet on the vines, but that´ll change soon. Back in town we had a great time walking around this small university town with lots of car-free streets. A coffee here, a pastry there, a beer here. We finally took time to chill out. Next up: Porto´s riverside charms and wine cellars.
Villa Real, Portugal hippler... houses where people have to hug the walls whenever a car comes. And it seems also that almost everywhere you can eat reasonably good food, even if it is the cold liver sandwich I got for lunch one day because it was cheap (and it was good, believe me). I also got a cell phone and a camera (finally!), so a few pictures should be here as soon as I can upload them. Thanks again to Filipa, Helena and their very friendly dog, if they ever read this. :)
Guimarães, Portugal renard... of town have grand boulevards lined with huge, classic buildings. Lots of interesting houses, churches, mini-palaces and tiled facades. Porto was a very important trading city and the home of port wine; these prosperous days live on in some magnificent architecture. Great little food market we popped into a couple of times with some little kitchens churning out tasty food for locals. Had a great, cheap feed of fish, pork rice and chips in one ...
