... I wonder... what about a monument to the brave Africans who fought for their independence from what was often a brutal colonial rule?

All the same, it does seem that Portugal has healed better than other European former colonial powers. Here you do see the former colonizers and the formerly colonized living, socializing and intermarrying in multicultural neighborhoods.

STILL IN SILVES

Hi all, we are still in Silves. Unbeknown to us, we seem to have landed on one of the best campsites around and now we are reluctant to move on. So again, Happy New Year, Adventure ...

... Portugal! Not a very good history lesson.
Tomorrow I take the bus to Seville. It is about a 4 hour ride in a giant bus, the long distance buses are huge. The cost again is inexpensive...about $16.
Seville should be packed with places to explore and things to see. I have booked a room for a week, but may stay longer before I head down to Cadiz on the coast...to be seen!
Enjoy the few photos. Happy New Year, Adventure ...

Today is flea market day in Momte Gordo, but not a great turn out. I saw a few things I liked, but couldn't carry them with me in my small pack. The town is the Portugese Fort Lauderdale. The most interesting thing was seeing the fisherman on the beach. ...
