Ruta 1 Kilometre 361 Encarnacion, Paraguay
After another long and sweaty bus journey where I was constantly eating thanks to the plethora of delicious foods that's constantly on offer on Paraguayan buses, I arrived in Encarnacion. As it was a Sunday evening there were no restaurants open for food and so I tucked into a bottle of Coke and a packet of biscuits. Nutritious.

My main reason for travelling to Encarnacion was to visit what are supposedly the "least-visited World ...
Encarnacion, Paraguay lisa.gillespieThe heat is almost unbearable, I´m trying to focus as my guide is explaining something about Guaraní culture and I´m about to pass out in the 45C heat (114F)!!! Oh, and don´t forget about the 85% humidity..... it is my last day in Asunción and I´m trying to make the most of if but it is hard to do anything in this kind of heat.

We move on to a fabulous local market and sip tereré to cool down a little. When my private tour of the city ...
Posadas, Argentina swedishvagabondThe ruins here are much more extensive and were actually finished. This means there is a lot more carving to see in the main church, including the pulpit and font. In addition there is a small museum of carved pieces, none actually complete but i reasonable condition. The site also has two churches, the first built as soon as they arrived and the much larger later church. The accomodation for the Indians is also much larger, here there are a total of nine different buildings, some ...
Posadas, Argentina mikeandmaryManaged to get into town again and found an insurance place. We were told that we could get a green card for the vehicle and given a price. We agreed to this and then went to a bank to get the money since they wanted cash. On return they then told us that we could not get the insurance and so now we are stuck on the border with lots of Paraguay money that we must change once we cross the border. They have told us we can get insurance in the town of Posadas in Argentina, we will see ...
Jesus, Itapúa, Paraguay mikeandmaryAnother night of rain, although not so heavy today. Our first item today was to go to the park entrance where they have a historic site. This consisted of the remains of the first iron foundry in Latin America, it was built by the Paraguay government and used a prison workforce to operate it. It was designed and run by British men, which was a bit of a surprise to us. Initially it produced household items, but swapped over and produced cannon and cannonballs during the war of the ...
Encarnacion, Paraguay mikeandmaryGot up early and had breakfast with Ingrid. Then caught our group tour van to a precious gem mine and some 17th century Jesuit ruins, further out in the Misiones province. Our group consisted of two older ladies from Mendoza, a younger couple, and a Venezuelan woman and her daughter who live in Buenos Aires. After about a half hour drive we arrived at the Wanda Mines, founded by a Polish immigrant. We walked down a ramp into ...

Back in time

----------

Encarnacion, Paraguay terredeshommesAfter a 4h busride I arrived in Ecarnation, so much more tranquil than Ciudad del Este. Once again I thought considering too much luggage, it would be a great option to take an hotel close to the bus terminal, so I did. After the check in I went to look for an hospital and I ended up at the butchers. My hotel was cleaner than the hospital but the main thing they did what they ...
Encarnation, Paraguay svdputteI rode a very crowded collectivo over the border from Posadas, and while I was on the bus, I had my backpack pickpocked! I noticed that a man about 6-7 feet away from me moved over next to me. I was standing like a sardine with my suitcase in front of me on the floor, and my backpack on my back! I could barely move. Dumb! It should have been on the ...
