... group is almost entirely Australian. There is just one other 'Pom' who I can discuss the X Factor with. At dinner I was surrounded by Aussies. We had the old favourite travellers conversations -

1. What is the most ill you have been on holiday? An Aussie couple beat everyone else with their graphic details. Nice topic for the dinner table.
2. How heavy is your backpack? I won - yes!!
3. Which anti malarial tablets are you taking and what are the horrific side effects?<br ...
Mexico City, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico lizzyletloose... under a steel-roof structure protected a recently-excavated house. After wondering around in the house for twenty minutes, with barely a let-up, we decided to press on to the Temple of the Sun, hoping to get a chance to climb to the top before the entire place closed at 5. As we moshed through sodden grass plazas, we started seeing flashes on the horizon, and before we knew it we were in the middle of a vicious, slightly worrisome lighting storm. After ...
Mexico City, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico dylbeano... orrore.
Mexico City, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico annoiatissima... There were no big signs and it wasn't exactly discernible from any other area, it had the usual sun beds and umbrellas, and over oiled lazy tourists. We went in for a closer look and almost tripped over the pool. It was smaller than the pool we used to have in our backyard in Australia when we had lived on the outskirts of Brisbane. We took one look and quickly decided this was not for us and we would walk back to our favorite spot. There we went ...
Playa del Carmen, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico casebrownfamily... river that carried us underneath the length of the park. Very cool, swimming in the dark above enormous depths, underwater caverns and rock formations (and of course colourful fish!). Unfortunately last day today, but other adventures await and we have had an amazing holiday. Getting on the plane tomorrow and we´ll be back in London on Friday morning. We should be in Dundee by Sunday....

Mexico City, Mexico edith05On our way to Tulum we also stopped in Playa del Carmen, but it's a place definitely worth going for a longer stay. This half an hour that we had on the beach wasn't definitely enough as we didn't have the time to go and see that famous 5th Avenue where all the shopping takes place.
Playa del Carmen, Mexico paula.ka... in Playa Del Carmen to hang out by the beach and enjoy our last few hours before the expedition begins. The water is beautiful and the clouds are keeping it cool. YEA! Not sure when we'll have Internet access again, but be sure we'll let everyone know all the details of the two hour trip into the jungle and our arrival at the base camp. Should be interesting!! Cheryl's been studying her fishes like mad and I've been stuffing ...
Playa del Carmen, Mexico whatboundaries... we go to Xochimilco and get a huge boat punted just for us 3 down the river. There are hundreds of brightly coloured boats lining the river were we climb over to ours. As we go we see the vendors and bands attaching themselves to the boats playing their tunes, or offering food and clothes and trinkets to buy. There is an installation on the river made of dolls pulled from the water, with missing limbs and not looking good to remember a ...
