Arctic ecosystems are extremely sensitive to climate change and a likely increase in average winter temperatures of between three to six times the global average is predicted. There is already evidence that winters in the Arctic and sub-Arctic regions are becoming warmer. While the average temperature of the earth's surface is ...
Palmerston North, North Island, New Zealand aggurlie... the nightly news. That's why I like this class so much... it leaves me with a sense of awareness. I just wish there was something we could do to help such a situation. Yet, at the same time... there was a segment in the film about a major gold mining operation that has taken over a part of the country... and guess who it is ran by? THE USA! It has resulted in the destruction of forests, along with the homes of many natives. As they mentioned in the film... this ...
Palmerston North, North Island, New Zealand aggurlie... the whole city. The sun was setting and it was gorgeous. We decided it would be our "secret spot" and would be fun to get some more friends together and have a picnic dinner there one of these evenings before it starts to get cold. There are SO many different kinds of flora and fauna on campus... it almost feels more like a park. I didn't take my camera on our walk, but Shelley did and I will be getting those pictures from her later to show everyone... We found heaps of little ...
Palmerston North, New Zealand aggurlie... about politics. So, I gave him my opinion and he gave me his and we agreed on many points of view. Once we arrived in Palmy, we were picked up by a study abroad coordinator and loaded our many bags of luggage into the Eurovan and station wagon that they had brought. It's a wonder how we fit everything and everyone into those two vehicles... we arrived at the beautiful campus and checked into our rooms... here are a few pictures of my room, and the view from ...
Palmerston North, New Zealand aggurlie... we all got on and he took us through town we tried to take in all the sights that we could be it was dificult he was going fast, but it all looked great. The town seemed not too big, no sky scrapers a couple buildings 8-10 stories high in the center and lots of residential little farms around there. We got to campus and noticed the same thing not big some large tall buildings but not too big. We unloaded at the ROS office and meet ...
Palmerston North, New Zealand ryanlystad... gave us the cookies she made because she didn't like them anyway. And also she brought candles out to the porch after banishing us from the kitchen and then banishing us from the porch, where there was no light. So yesterday we went to an Irish pub where I got geography lessons on Scotland by a pretty drunk Scottish teacher. Sweet as. Tonight we are going to watch a play called "Stiff". I am going to the museum right after this post.
Palmerston North, New Zealand jun-etan... Jill told me is a chain of restaurants. We were advised to either order from the entree menu or order the small portion of the main courses as portion sizes are ridiculously large. I ordered a small portion of the main course fish dish and Graham had entree sized ribs and we both had a decent sized portion. Even the desserts portions are massive, although I was sensible and chose meringue which at least is a light dessert!
Palmerston North, New Zealand shonandgraham... name it. We were reaching our fingers out to one of them and it bit Laura. Hehe. The next day we just spent at Paraparaumu Beach, which was so nice and relaxing, then headed back to Palmy. The next day, Sunday, I went with my friends Jackie and Rachel and did a triathlon in Fielding. Jackie and I entered as a team, with me doing the 350m swim to start, then the 4km run at the end, and her doing the 12km bike in between. We came in with a ...
Palmerston North, New Zealand jille86... dangled in the water. Obviously the monster that I caught managed to get away somehow. Sharon caught a cold, so we spent a few days lurking around the hostel in Rotarua. Rotarua is full of mud pits and an evil sulpher smell in the air. Also there were hot spas to soak in, these also smelled bad but maybe not as bad as us after 3 months travelling. There is a geyser below rotarua called Lady Knox which spouts at 10.15 daily. We were ...
