... I would say...and it has everything you would need...and the larger town of Hato Mayor is only 15 km back to the south. It was well worth the trip, and we finished off our visit by having a Presidente at a local cafe.

The time seemed to fly by while Ian was here, also because I was busy working in the midst of all these activities! I was very happy to show him around, and I am really looking forward to his next visit and his medical project in November!
Consuelo, San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic la_profe... I had imagined. I brought a few paintings back with me that I had bought down here previously, and I finally got them back from being framed this week! So, although the walls are frighteningly white, I have managed to put some colour to them. I am also toying with the idea of an accent wall behind the bed - just to make it a little less bland...any colour suggestions, anyone?

The a/c is broken at the moment, but I have been ...

La Romana, La Romana, Dominican Republic carlosjeremy... in for the first time). On Fridays, I generally don't have classes, unless someone asks me to come for one reason or another, or unless classes were rained out on a previous day. Friday is reserved for working on a project at the orphanage, which I think will finally get off the ground next week. I decided that I want to develop an after-school activity program for the younger children at the orphanage that will be run by the older high school-aged ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hmaclean... dogs, and it gave me my dog fix for a while, as I have been really missing Maggie and Dusty (and of course, Scott!!). Between the pool, the yard, the food, the dogs, and the wonderful company, I had a really enjoyable time in Juan Dolio, and I think I will take Matilda up on her offer to go back to visit whenever I feel like getting away. Sadly, it is back to Consuelo, work, and reality on Monday! I guess my week off had to come to an end sometime! Ta ta for now!
Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic hmaclean... back for the pictures. However, it appeared that the guy with the key to the kiosk never showed up, as the guy behind the counter was on the floor behind it, and there were nuts, bolts, and screws on the counter and on the floor, and there he was with a screwdriver taking the thing apart from the back! (If there's one thing I can say, is that Dominicans are very resourceful...if something doesn't work the conventional way, they will find an ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hmaclean... we were in Boston Logan Airport - but I guess they were all heading back home from their vacations. The flight was not too bad, although there were some turbulants near the end. When I landed, I went through immigration, which took all of 30 seconds. Then it was time for baggage collection...what an experience. They had 3 flights in at the same time, and they decided to put all of the luggage from all 3 flights on 1 carousel ...
San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic hmaclean... On the contrary, instead of being mad, everyone seemed have had a wholesome good time and we are already planning another trip to an even better beach in June! They're excited; I'm nervous. In other news I have started a flag-football team and so far it is going relatively well. The kids don't know anything about American football so we are definitely starting from square one, but they have made some respectable progress. My friend Randy, another Peace Corps Volunteer ...
Cacieuq, Dominican Republic bradleyhaas... To walk in the midst of shade and see mountain in the distance, to sit out underneath a mango tree and read a book, write, or talk with people. The generosity and caring of the people here. They may be poor, but what is their's is your's. How is you come when they are eating they say "buen tiempo" (good timing) and the response is "buen provecho" (Have a good meal more or less). How there are like five families in my community that want to feed me. I am sad at ...
Los Coquitos, Hacienda, Monte Plata, Dominican Republic wylycm... you have to stop at every house and say hello and spend some time sitting and chatting or drinking a cup of coffee. I guess I am going to have to get use to the coffee (well see because I am not a coffee drinker). I enjoy my brother. He is about 16 and knows some English so we talk at night and he appreciated my help with his grammar and so forth. I have my own room and it is nice. There is a window that I open during the day. The community pretty much has ...
