Traveling outside of your country can be quite exciting and scary at the same time. Many people discourage traveling to developing countries if you go alone, especially if you are a woman. I have been told to wait until I am married to travel but I am not going to wait for that. I am a 27 year old single lady with a strong desire to see the world. I see the wisdom of traveling with someone so I decided to travel with my sister. Nikki is a 25 year old single lady with ...

... us with lunch and rum all afternoon. A lot of the girls got drunk and very sunburned from spending all day out in the sun and then in full sun on the Catamaran. Two of the girls working for the excursion company came back with us and danced to boombox music during the return ride. I was not up for dancing. I just wanted to get back to the hotel room and sleep! Too bad ...

As ...

... the club president realized that there were no classes that day - and hence, so teachers or students in the schools. So we had a wasted trip, and I was a little disappointed, but we did re-schedule right away for this past week - and this time it was a success! We were able to split the supplies between 3 different bateyes, and it was so nice to see the joy on the students' faces when they each received ...

A travel blog entry by hmaclean on Oct 20, 2008

... the lifestyle for the students in the bateyes is not conducive to striving for academia. Although many of the students are very smart, they simply have too many obstacles that make it difficult to spend any amount of time on school outside of class. That being said, they all come to school with smiles on their faces, and even though some of them look like they haven't slept in days, they are always polite and try their best to stay ...
