Historical Traveler Reviews of Embassy Suites Hotel Tampa-Airport/Westshore

Not Good

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed in several Embassy Suites, this by far has been the worst. It wasn't horrible, but just not up to my standards. It is in need of repair. Can you imagine a suite without a refrigerator? I can't. There was one but it is locked and to use it you must have they key to the minibar. There were a couple of other things that just were annonying -- no toilet paper, only 2 towels-must request more if needed 2 is standard (even though it is a suite) ; no tissues and not very clean.

Getting needed renovations?

from ingleberg
I've never stayed at an Embassy Suites before, so I didn't really know what to expect. My room was absolutely huge, but needed work. Throughout the room, the dark carpet had white spots (plaster?) trailed across it. The bathroom looked outdated, and the towel rack was dangling from the wall -- just about ready to fall off. The towels themselves were well past their prime. The elevators were excruciatingly slow. Hope is in sight though, as the lobby appeared to be under renovation. Perhaps the rooms will follow? On the plus side: the shower, A/C, hotel location, service and complimentary breakfast were all excellent.

Nice hotel

from chris1005
Very nice, clean hotel. The rooms have a mini-kitchen. There is plenty of parking and the hotel is close to all that tampa has to offer. I will stay here next time I'm in Tampa!

Good, but not great

I've stayed here before, but thought I'd write a review this time. As noted earlier, this was not built as an Embassy Suites (I think the Sheraton nearby was, then reflagged). I think it was a Guest Quarters, then a Crowne Plaza for a short time, before becoming an ES. In any case, the place is fine, with large rooms and good finishes. My suite had a mini-kitchen which is nice when staying a few days. Service was fine, and the breakfast buffet good. My major complaint was the shrunken fitted sheets on the bed - barely covered the top corner, much less wrapping the full height of the mattress. By morning I was sleeping directly on the mattress!

Great place

We found this hotel after getting out of the Clarion, and were very happy to have a nice clean, large hotel room. Fridge and microwave, two tv's and a nice place to sit and put makeup on. Very nice, would stay again. Between 2 large malls.

A true Nightmare, Stay away if you want a good time in Tampa

from A TripAdvisor Member
We planned on staying there four days, We checked in and got a very dirty room, after a run around we got a different room the room appeared clean however the bed smelled like unrine, not much sleep and in the daylight the room was really in rough shape. a One star at best for an outragous price. We tried to make the best and went to the complemetary breakfast. Another nightmare, rude staff, and poor food pushed us over the edge, We checked out and went to another hotel miles away from our business appointments but at least it was safe and it was clean

Do not stay at this place if you want to enjoy Tampa

Perfect experience!

from kristin1122
We went to Tampa to experience some different nightlife and chose to stay at the Embassy. We loved it! We got the "romance package"... which included a late check out of 3 PM, champagne, and chocolate covered strawberries! Our room was on the top floor overlooking the bay. Beautiful view! The room was immaculate. Large and clean and comfortable. We had a separate kitchen area w/ plenty of room for making drinks and sandwiches. We also really enjoyed the Manager's Reception! We drank free for 2 hours each night while we enjoyed the YUMMY pizza from the restaurant!! We have no complaints about this place. Just hop on the highway for 5-7 minutes to get to all the Ybor nightlife.... and enjoy your stay at the Embassy!!

Shame about the weather

from RogerfromLondon
Great location for staying when you get off a long haul flight at 6pm - just 5-10 mins drive from the terminals. Hotel is not usual ES style and not purpose built as many are. However the suites are good size with large bedroom and living room. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is relaxed. Service levels are pretty good. Dining facilities are limited but breakfast is usual ES standard. Managers drinks reception is not up to much. Hotel is very well placed for getting around Tampa, right next to the I-275 and 60, and I did not see anywhere else I would prefer to the Westshore area. The Westshore Mall is literally across the street and the upscale International Mall just 5 mins drive. Perfect for a stop off overnight or as we did for a couple of days.

What a suprise.

Embassy Suites is a well known name, with many hotels. Their service is top-notch, and the rooms are always clean, neat, well kept. Parking is plentiful and convenient.

Which is why I was so suprised when I arrived at the Embassy Suites Tampa Airport. The parking was horrid (half-block away!) and the room, while clean, was definitely not a typical Embassy room. For this, I was charged roughly a quarter more than my usual standard company rate.

I must have been spoiled by all the other outstanding Embassy Suites which I have stayed at, for I was very dissapointed with this one.

I only stayed for one night. Perhaps if you stay for more than one night you could get used to it, but for me, I say, no thank you.

One last thing to add...in the past I have been known to misplace the invoice for my trip. Most of the time this is not a problem, as a quick call to the Embassy I stayed at results in the accounting desk quickly faxing to me a copy of my invoice. However, this time, I got switched between two or three departments, only to get an answering machine. I can understand if it was lunchtime, or after hours to get a recording, but this was just after mid-morning.

In short, though the room was fine, there are a lot of other details, which in this day and age can make or break a chain. Personally, I found this Embassy to be sub-standard.

Great Facility/Staff

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have brought groups to this property for the past 6 years. The facility is always spotless, the staff professional, (with little turnover) and the rates fair.

You can not beat their breakfast and happy hour anywhere!
