Day 3 - Eureka to Portland

Motorcycling, as in most things in life, is all about balance and (ultimately) about trade-offs. I mention this because the decision to be made on Sunday was how long to stay on US-101. US-101, also known as the Redwood Highway, is just one of the MOST spectacular roads in California for so many reasons --- the breathtaking views of the ocean, the majestic Redwoods (obviously), the remarkable wild life (including stunning herds of elk), and a hefty dose of "Americana" in the little towns that...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Downtown

Simply wonderful!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Simply wonderful! On our first visit to Portland, we were very fortunate to choose this hotel. From the moment we walked in, we were treated like royalty. We plan to go back once every year. Our biggest mistake was getting a rental car. The hotel shuttle will take you anywhere downtown and the rail system was great for visiting the mall, outside of downtown. You will not be disappointed.

Very nice!

from BethesdaTraveler99
This hotel was an elegant find in downtown Portland. We arrived in the late afternoon and were pleased to find complimentary drinks and snacks. The room was large, well-appointed, clean and quiet. The bellmen were both quite helpful and friendly. There was also a free fully-cooked breakfast, which was great! One of the blankets had some sort of yuck on it, but housekeeping showed up immediately with a replacement. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Great complimentary breakfast!

The lobby was lovely and the room was a good size. The complimentary breakfast buffet was the best we've ever had at a hotel. The location was a little dead in the evening, but there were good restaurants within walking distance.

Stinky sheets and bedding

from travelersfromoregon
I must agree with the other reviewers regarding the lovely and charming lobby of the Embassy Suites, convenient location and wonderful breakfast. The room itself was very spacious for a family of four. However, the sheets and bedding smelled like mildew and when asked for fresh sheets and pillows, they still smelled horrendous! Despite having housekeeping change the sheets the next day (she was not scheduled to change our sheets but changed it at our request) there was no getting around the mildew, sour smell. Though we had a great time in Portland and spent the entire day out and about, falling asleep on sheets and bedding that smelled of sour dishrags was not a great ending.

Beautiful Step Back in Time

I heartily agree with the comments made by "A TripAdvisor User, San Francisco Bay area, CA." The former Multnomah Hotel is still the grand hotel it was built to be. You absolutely can't go wrong here. I especially enjoyed perusing the memorabilia from days gone by and the coffe table book detailing the history of this beautiful building.

Just Wonderful!!!

The customer service at this hotel was excellent from the moment we walked out of our car. The front desk was able to check us in early, any items or services that we needed, we were tended to in a matter of minutes. The breakfast was great--many of the foods offered were healthy! The hotel was beautiful and walking distance to many shops and restaurants. The valet parking was a little pricey ($22/day) but overall, the staff was wonderful. My family and I would most definitely stay there again.

The "Grand lady of 4th Avenue"

Embassy Suites are always fine properties but this one is different. In contrast to most modern hotels in this chain, the old "Multnomah Hotel" was opened in 1912 and has housed a King (Elvis),a Queen (Elizabeth) and a President (Ike). This hotel is warm, charming and elegant. It is a refreshing throwback to the days of "GRAND hotels". Her location is perfect for those who like to stroll around town (mere blocks from "old Portland" and the riverfront) and the services provided are ideal for those who prefer to hang around inside (pool, workout room, cozy lobby with fireplace, free shuttle and a staff that ranks 4 stars). I don't need to use the workout facility because I can run laps in my room. The suites are spacious (to say the least) and extremely well appointed. The evening manager's reception includes complimentary beverages (booze) and a fine spread of hot nacho fixin's along with big screen tvs. The breakfast buffet (also free) is excellent and very "kid-friendly". Room service is prompt and the menu offers a delicious range of meals. I travel to Portland 4-6 times a year and I will not stay anywhere else. I have yet to find anything wrong with this hotel. It's nice to be treated like a VIP every now and then. From the time they greet you at the door to the time you check out you will feel like a millionaire....take it to the bank!!!

A wonderful hotel for families

from A TripAdvisor Member
We visit Portland several times a year, as it is my kids' favorite weekend getaway spot. One big reason for that is this wonderful hotel... accomodating employees, large rooms, a beautiful pool perfect for kids, a huge breakfast buffet (with an adjacent small gameroom where the kids can escape to play air hockey while mom and dad sip their coffee) and a very convenient location. There are many nice hotels in Portland, but, for families especially, Embassy Suites downtown is the best.

Love, Love, Love It!!

My husband and I have stayed here on several occasions and it's by far, my favorite place. it has class, warmth, it's clean and quiet. So much for your money. it's in a great location so you can walk to several places of interest, or just stay in your comfy room and enjoy yourselves. There is a game for for the children, a real nice pool, and exercise room. Everything you could want all in one place. The morning breakfast that is complimentary will take your breath away. Stay here!!

You won't be sorry!!

Wonderful hotel!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We had a meeting with over 100 attendees at this beautiful, historic hotel and it was a wonderful experience. The facility is elegant, the food was delicious (both catering and the Chop House) and the staff the best we've ever worked with. The downtown location is great, too. I would highly recommend it for a meeting, vacation or business trip.
