El Paso, Texas

This is definitely the worst campground we have stayed at. Next time we will remember and take our time to visit the shower-house before we pay. It was to dirty to use. The ground was covered with little pickers that stuck to my shoes, one even came through my shoe to poke me. Oh well, live and learn.
... home, nestled on the sandy outskirts of El Paso. They had one of those cool bathrooms where there’s loads of amusing literature pined on the walls. It really was a nice place to be; also Charley’s huge workshop was great to prep the bikes for Mexico. I was lucky enough to rest my head in the pop up caravan/trailer. We all had a great time, cooking at home and going out for Chinese buffet dinner. Karin and Martin have gone back to the Netherlands for a few weeks to see ...

... ago. You might call it the Arizona version of Bryce Canyon. There are numerous trails ranging from short and paved to all day adventures, but the first thing that comes to my mind is…..SNAKES, and I’m not at all sure I want to be tromping around in the sagebrush while Mr. Rattler snoozes under its shade. You can also camp in the area….but without AC…no way!

As you approach Willcox from the west, south of I ...

... They were great carmates. I saw an advertisement in the Hong Kong airport that used a quote from St. Augustine that read " Life is a book; if you do not travel, you read only one page." As ever, I am grateful that Fred and I are able to travel like this. He has led me many places, sometimes in a very roundabout way, covering more ground than needed, but always it is an "adventure". As long as it is physically possible, the adventure will continue...one page at a time. From the back seat...Ernie

... of my dresser top!) Despite devote usage, I still am a flake ready to float through a hole in the ozone layer. Often the humidity in El Paso registers at 5% or less! So far this year we've had less than 1/3 inch of rain total! It is dry in the desert. Traveler, Beware! Bring your fluids and cremes. Do not neglect to utilize them.

... remorse there in that truck on the way to Torreon. I was aware of the traveling though I didn't fully awake till we arrived in our destination. We thought he would drop us off at a gas station but instead he took us to drop off his cargo. He picked up a guy waving a white flag in the road who turned out to be a guide. The guide directed us to the wrong depot several times then took 100 pesos from our driver and buggered off. After the drop our friend bought ...

... reliant on the health of their natural surroundings. In fact, studies done at the Universities of Montana and Colorado show that intact natural landscapes attract not only tourists to a region but also new residents and businesses that pump dollars into local economies. It isn't just plentiful sunshine that has made the Southwest one of the fastest-growing regions in the nation, it's also the region's diverse natural attractions, one of which is wildlife. The fence ...

Day 22: Fort Davis, TX to Marathon, TX

... I will update my journal and travel blog before dinner. Dinner is wholesome and abundant, prepared by Michelle (who is also an expert bike mechanic, massage therapist and traveling minstrel), and usually served around 6:00 or 6:30. The meals that Michelle is able to prepare using only a propane burner and charcoal grill are quite remarkable. She is an artist at dutch-oven cooking. There are always fresh salad greens each night to complement such entrees ...

No More Donkey Shows

I crossed the border at El Paso, the very first place that I ever walked across a border about three years before. Mexican customs people even searched my stuff, right there in the bus station, and got excited by my transistor radio. I remember talking to a guy on the bus about my perception that Mexico was inhabited by a countryside full of ...
