Laos border
We passed the Thai - Laos border in Nong Khai without any hassle and arrived in Vientiane at 9am, to find out that the place we had book had managed to free a double room and not a single as we were initially told... Nice! We even have a TV! Vientiane is a beautiful city, there are a lot of old french houses and there is French food everywhere.. It …

... being kid in a candy jar again. We felt compelled to buy some vintage candy, some of which we sent home to the grandkids and Sody, along with our old maps and notes. We wanted to send home some winter clothes but the forecast was calling for cooler weather for all of next week. This weather now seems to have followed all the way to Florida, very discouraging.
Afterwards we went to lunch at the Busy Bee ...

We turned around to meet them and it turns out they were a party of five; three from The Netherlands, one from South Africa and one from Atlanta, Georgia, that they had met on the internet. They were all experienced bike tourists and in their early to late sixties with many miles logged, the oldest having 420,000 kilometers. They all had flown to San Diego where they began their cross-country tour to St. ...

Our hand forced us to order a pizza, do laundry, map and journal while waiting for the pizza with our backs to the tv, and then to add insult to injury, a reunion of some party proportion descended on the lobby, so we had to listen and watch with envy! It was very late when we finally went to bed, not good when you know you have another long day ...
Fantastic beaches. Love Florida.

Historical Traveler Reviews Embassy Suites Destin - Miramar Beach
A Nice Place to Stay
My husband and I stayed at the Embassy Suites only one night (we were scheduled for 3 nights but a family emergency made us leave early) - Saturday, March 5, 2005. The hotel is very nice with a good location for shopping or hitting the beach. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the lobby could get a tad noisy (but with free drinks from 5:30 to 7:30 PM - what hotel lobby wouldn't?). Check in was quick and efficient and the front desk gave us absolute NO grief about checking out 2 days early.
The breakfast in the morning was NOT crowed and had plenty of hot food - pancakes and omelets made to order! The manager's reception in the evening was suprisingly low key for the first weekend of spring break. The bartender appeared very busy but made an excellent cocktail.
All in all a great hotel to stay in while on vacation in Destin!
Embassy Suites Destin
A Front Desk Clerk named Sarah checked us in and was extremely rude and incompetent. I've never stayed at a Motel 6, but I imagine we would have been met with more professionalism there. Her existence at Embassy Suites Destin truly degrades this hotel. Besides starting off on a sour note, things got better after check-in. The next day, the manager on duty apologized for Sarah's rudeness (although I'm not sure anything else came out of it). Our room was clean and comfortable. The housekeeping staff and other staff members were professional and polite. The breakfast was not great but it was filling and there was pretty much something to please everyone. My biggest complaint about the breakfast is that when we didn't get there as soon as the breakfast bar opened, the food was cold. If breakfast is going to be served over a period of three-four hours, it should be hot for three-four hours and not just the first hour. Overall, it was a decent hotel and I'd probably stay there again if I return to Destin.
Wonderful Hotel
Me and my now fiancee' went to Destin in January for my birthday. We stay'd in the celebration sweet. It was wonderful. The room had a jacuzzi, which was wonderful. The breakfast was great too. The dinner wasn't all that we wanted. In fact, we ended up going to TGIF instead. However the dessert was great. The only bad part of it was that the pool heater was not working and we didn't get robes as we were promised. Still i would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Destin. The employees were really friendly and a great help. The only rude one was a rude woman by the name of Margrette. But it is ok. I would recomend this hotel to ANYONE. Have fun on your trip!!
Great Stay! Recovered from Hurricane
Hurrican Ivan is over and thankfully this hotel has recovered from any damage it might have received. Check-in was a breeze. Suite was exactly what you would expect in a good Embassy Suites. Beach access is across the street - less than a 5 minute walk. Breakfast was what you would expect in a good Embassy Suites. Overall, this was a great stay in a great hotel in a great city on a great beach! P.S. Shopping at Silver Sands is only about 5 minutes away - "Nations Largest Designer Outlet Center" they claim....which it comes pretty close. Would highly recommend.
Nice Stay
We spent 3 nights at this hotel, it's very nice and the workers are there to help and VERY friendly! The free breakfast was nice and we enjoyed the free drinks from the bar during happy hour! Just wish the pool was a little bigger and cleaner
A nice place but not for the penny watchers...
Stayed there this summer for a family reunion. The hotel was nice and it certainly met our needs. The rooms were clean, had lots of room and we especially liked the extra vanity area in the master bedroom. The breakfast was very nice. There were eggs, omeletts, pancakes, french toast sticks, grits, hash browns, sausage, bacon, cereal, fruit, etc. It was a nice way to start the day. We also enjoyed the atrium area for mingling with our family while the kids were sleeping. The front desk staff were nice. The man in sales was not all that accomodating. We asked for the Spider Man packs, as were promised for kids who stay there this summer but he wouldn't give us any, rather wanted to sell them for $20! The pool was nice but the hot tub was so over-chlorinated our eyes were burning and it literally turned my hair green. (I'm not exaggerating about this. I had to buy special shampoo to get rid of the green and even that took a few days!) The beach, as promised was across the street. Not too far a walk but next time, we'd rather be on the beach. All in all, it was a good value. With the nice, upscale rooms and the full breakfast, it was very nice. The rooms are moderately expensive so if you're a family watching your pennies, this may not be the place. ($200 + a night)
Great stay
GREAT STAY---The Staff was wonderful-room, breakfast, evening drinks and pool were well taken care of. The catering staff did a great job on our dinner party and the meal was above expectation. Look forward to coming back.
Made to feel like we were not wanted .
My family and I stayed at the hotel last week, the breakfast was free but it was terrible, we wonder how could someone mess up good food. We went to the reception one night , we were not wanted and bartender nor his staff tried to hide it. I felt it was a racist hotel without a doubt. I had already made plans to go back there, made reservations when i made the first ones, but i've cancel them .
Embassy Destin was very nice!!
The Embassy in Destin is a beautiful property, well-maintained, great location, and has a staff waiting to meet your every request. We enjoyed our stay there immensely, even though we encountered some rainy days (good for shopping malls and resting up), but the beautiful beaches and sunny days made up for it.
Because Embassy offers so many amenities, including a complimentary evening manager's reception and free cooked-to-order morning breakfast/brunch with MANY choices, we have found staying there when traveling with a family is a value many people overlook.
Enjoyed our stay very much
We spent labor day weekend there and we enjoyed it. The hotel was comfy and clean. We loved the kitchenette. This hotel is located across the street from the beach which is great. Very few rooms have a decent view. The staff was great. The breakfast is just OK but it hit the spot. This is a great hotel for families. Therefore it can be a bit noisey. The walls are very thin.
