Baltimore Washington Airport

A travel blog entry by sharonscanlan

We spent the morning packing and cleaning up in Anne's wonderful home. Then we shipped Karen's school supplies. We drove to our hotel but couldn't check in so we had a late lunch at Chili's, near BWI and then checked in to the Embassy Suites. The boys went swimming but unfortunately there was an obnoxious big family there for a reunion who were …

... the first week was busy with a couple of work interviews, I also had some time for fun. I was lucky enough to be back in time for my 10 year high school reunion - hard to believe it's been that long! It was fantastic to go with my best friend Aileen and catch up with a bunch of our classmates. (We realized we've been friends for longer than we haven't. Does that make sense?! Haha.) We reminisced about some great and hilarious memories from our times there, and chatted about ...

... We ate as soon as we got back and then decided to go for a walk and see if we could suss out where we were. We walked down 7th avenue and then along by all the (shut) museums. We were attempting to find the White House (without a map) when it poured down absolutely torrential rain. We were soaked in seconds and then had to trudge back to the hostel. Early night after that up again tomorrow to check out the sights in the daylight ...

... Given the similarities between the US and the UK, the differences were often all the more startling.

After a few disappointing days in DC, we picked up a rental car and left the city. The next four days had been set aside for the Shenandoah National Park, where, as well as beautiful scenery, it's common to see little black bears ambling along foraging, so we had been really looking forward to our final camping experience. But the park was closed because of ...

... was so excited and didn't know what exciting thing to do first.

We went up the tower and watched Dulles Airport traffic and listened to the feed of the air traffic controllers. We went back to the hangar and saw the Concord, the Enola Gay which dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, and endless variety of infamous war aircraft from around the world and ...

Very nice place for a family stay before we flew home. Good restaurant and great breakfast. We wanted to use the pool so our grandsons could swim but there was a big family reunion going on and the people were offensive. They took over the pool area and were in the halls. Management should have done something. We really like Embassy Suites.
