You know that saying 'if something seems too good to be true it probably is' well that pretty much sums up our first experience of helpx. Things didn’t really start too well, we turned up in Mersing where we had been told to go on our first day of work and turned up at the office to find it closed. We phoned our boss Jasbeer who told us we were meant to have phoned as the boat had already left so we sat ...

I'd been warned Mersing wasn't a particularly nice area so wanted to find somewhere to stop ASAP. After about 20 minutes I managed to find somewhere fairly cheap although it was a dive with a shared bucket shower and squat toilet but I just needed it for the bed as I was ready to crash.

... out the correlation between water and radiator had caused our bus driver to forget all his English. While before he had told us we'd have to wait half an hour or so, as the hours ticked away, he was unable to communicate. Through other passengers we learned that maybe a mechanic was on his way, or another bus. Nobody knew for sure; also, nobody seemed to rule out that we could be stuck there for the night. We contemplated trying to hitch a ride, but finally ...

    ... death penalty for drugs...).

All in all it was a very nice weekend. I got sunburnt and by now I am tanned. On Sunday evening I was a real Ang Mo (that is Chinese and means Red Man. Chinese people call caucasians Ang Mo and normally it does not really apply to me but on Sunday I looked a little lobsterish). The food was just perfect (maybe a little too much) and the sea offered a lot.

Now the next step is to get a visa for India...
