The best location for New York Visit
We stayed here for three nights, based on previous reviews and were not disappointed. This is THE best way to see New York if you cannot stretch to paying hotel prices on Manhattan.
The hotel was great, clean & spacious rooms, smallish pool with jacuzzi (to relax in after long sightseeing days !) with good breakfast - all the usual American fare.
Some renovations were in progress, which did not intrude, although the better half reckoned there was slight smell in the room, so just check that the stated non smoking rooms are as they say.
The hotel is in a great area for restaraunts, shopping and entertainment as previous rewiewers have stated and above all it felt safe.
The hotel is a $40 taxi fare from Newark Airport, but this is more than compensated by the $11 return bus fare to Manhattan which stops just outside the hotel. The trips to and from were very good (about 20 minutes) on clean coaches and relable services running to the Port Authority Bus Terminal on 42nd street until 4 a.m. ( Just be careful as the bus runs from a different gate at the PABT from about 10.00 p.m. ).
This compares with a 1 1/2 to 2 hour journey on 3 differant buses from a Newark airport hotel as we found out later in the week when we could'nt get back into Secaucus hotels due to the UN meeting / Fashion week overload !
So all in all, this is an excellent way to see New York.
We stayed at the Embassy Suites and they had nice rooms, but our door wouldn't close right and they were varnishing some doors near the office and the smell was very strong in the morning, but would usually go away towards night time. They must be about done with the remodel but our room could have used new carpeting....otherwise the bathroom was huge and the seperate bedroom was great. If you stay thier I would just ask if they are done remodeling and get a room that is done. They have parking in a ramp behind the hotel and it's confusing to get to but we managed. There is an Outback restaraunt right by the hotel as well as a Wal-mart and a bus stop that takes you right down town New York City for under $3.00 round trip per person. We drove to the Statue of Liberty on the new jersey side, but I would not recommend it. Instead I would take the bus downtown and go to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island from the Manhatten side. We took the subway to Ground Zero and then walked to the water and you'll see the boats that go to the statue and Ellis Island. Driving anywhere near that city is hard. I'm use to driving in Chicago and we were having problems because there are very few signs. They have tours from the hotel but they are expensive for a family, so ask about the bus and get a schedule. When you get dropped off at the station downtown everyone is friendly and they will point you in the right direction. We went to the Empire State Building and then for the first time EVER we rode the subway to Ground Zero. Just go down the stairs for the subway and when you buy the ticket ask the man which train I think it was the K or L that goes to the Ground Zero.
Nice and convenient
Stayed one night so we could visit Times Square and Statue of Liberty. Hotel was nice. Separate room for Mom/Dad was a plus. Cheaper than NYC hotels but still not cheap. Front office staff was a bit stiff.
Great alternative to NYC
We used your reviews to pick the Embassy Suites -- Secaucus, Meadowlands and were not disappointed. It rained the afternoon/evening we arrived and we were exhausted so we were grateful to stay in and have a pool to entertain the kids. It is small so be prepared for that. The hotel is located right next to a movie theater and a variety of restaurants so walking to stuff was easy and appreciated after the long car ride. We buzzed over to Walmart in a nearby plaza and picked up munchies to keep in our room. There is a small refrigerator and microwave in the room. The bed was fabulous and the size of the suite was fantastic especially compared to the tiny room you'd get for twice the price in Manhattan. Each morning we had a complimentary breakfast -- hot eggs (scrambled or made to order), french toast, waffles, etc. were available. The hotel has been renovated recently and it is beautiful. We walked across the street for the bus to NYC -- it really is more like a motor coach. We were in the city in 15-20 minutes and it cost $17 roundtrip for a family of 4. We will definitely stay at this Embassy again. Everything about our experience with them was great!
Great Choice for NYC tourist
Staying at Embassy Suites Secaucus was the best decision of our vacation. Perfect for families doing the NYC scene. My husband and I, along with children ages 7 and 9 loved the hotel. Bus 320 stopped right out front across the street every 10 minutes. Dropped us off at Penn Station. It was 1/2 the price of staying in NYC but with much more benefit. A nice pool, a warm and filling breakfast and plenty of resonably priced resturants within a 5 minute walk. Walmart was a 10 minute walk for forgotten items or quick snack. After a long, noisy day in NYC it was great to head back to a quieter, more relaxing hotel. The only issues might be a sparse "managers reception," compared to other Embassy Suites and an enforced 9:30 pm pool curfew for the kids. (One night the manager came in and kicked out 5 families)! I suppose this was so adults could enjoy the pool - but I noticed it stayed empty after the heave-ho. Otherwise, pefect for the NYC traveler.
Stayed here over the May/June 05 kids half term week. Great alternative from staying in New York. Excellent value compared to NY hotels. Great complimentary breakfast with loads to choose from. Very impressed particulary with the size of the King size bed in the suite. It was larger than average and so comfortable with fabulous pillows. The kids had a large sofa bed in another room, also with a tv, which they thought was great. The bus to NY stopped outside the hotel and ran every 5 minutes. When the kids were fed up of NY trips we took them to Liberty Science museum which was great for them. Again we used public transport. The shops around the hotel were easily accessible and the hotel ran a complementary ride to the malls. Had a great week, would definately recommend. The cost of a taxi ride to Newark airport booking the through hotel shop was $45. The airport is very accessible and took about 15 minutes to get to.
Loved the Embassy in Secaucus
We stayed at this hotel for New Year's Eve 2004/2005. The staff was very friendly and encouraged us to use the 320 bus to Port Authority. The bus was fantastic. The rooms were spacious, as all Embassy Suites are, great value for the money and the bus service is fantastic. It ran until 5am on New Year's Eve.
Great alternative to staying in NYC. There is a NJ Transit Bus stop right outside that drops you off in Manhattan. There where quite of bit of families there with young children, so be careful if you're young and with a bunch of your friends.
Great Hotel for Pilots
Have stayed at some of the other "suite" hotels in the past. They have always had kids running up and down the halls all night, and I was never able to get any sleep. We spent a few more dollars to stay at the Embassy Suites, but it was well worth it. We were treated like kings. We did not hear a peep once we were in our suite. They explained that they are true suites. What a great deal on the evening managers reception, and a FANTASTIC breakfast!!! We will always stay there now. I could not put a price on a good nights sleep until I stayed at Embassy.
Enjoyed our stay at the hotel very much. Classic embassy (one of my favorite chains) Room was roomy, clean, comfortable. 1 king in BR with QN SOFA BED. Fine for a family. Staff were very friendly and helpful especially considering I was concerned about "rude new yorker types"... not an issue. +++ Several eating places (outback stk house, mexican), plus a mall in walking distance. Would stay again!
Only downside was bought the $11/day wireless internet but it was very slow.
Would consider taking bus (dedicated tunnel so it runs on time) to manhattan rather than driving the big island..it is an experience but i survived it. $5/ one way but we got stuck in manhattan over the memorial day weekend rush getting off!!!

We ended up driving almost an hour to Bayonne to their YMCA and for 7$ we got a great workout at their little quiet gym and nice hot showers.
