    ... s ABSOLUTE favorite- chocolate marshmallow ripple! We ate too much but not all of it, (really, not all of it). A quick trip into the visitor center and off we go! Well with a few more stops... a big sailboat marina, one of the Mississippi River locks, a fantastic Buena Vista photo opportunity, the Nelson Creamery where we bought some cheese curds, (they squeak on our teeth) and dinner in Trempealeau.     ... in several places where I crossed the river to take R26 south to Sand Ridge State Forest a little south of Pekin. Surprised to find a pine forest and sand dunes in Illinois but this place has them both. The nicest primitive (no hookup) campsites that I have seen on the trip. Nice soft pine needle floor and well shaded sites.

    ... it's horn. The fog in the air made the spotlight cut through and look really cool. At about 2AM some rowdy, possibly drunk, guys drove through the park and screamed "WAKE UP!" followed by a few rooster crows in my direction. They were hanging out by the riverside for a while and I woke to the loud echoing of a shotgun blast into the river. They didn't stay long after that, thankfully.     I experienced the first snow already. That was a shock; and it was beautiful at the same time. I certainly was not ready for that and realized more things I had to go out and buy, such as a window scraper!!
