... catacombs of which were worth exploring. We ate dinner at an Italian restaurant in the middle of a plaza, where the locals were a little subdued, as the French football team had just been beaten in the world cup by Germany! Then we visited the Chateau Royal de Blois for the nightly son et lumiere (sound and light) show, which dramatically depicted the chateau's rather turbulent - and sometimes gory - history. By the time that was over, it was almost 11.30pm - a very late night for us!

... back to an open cafe for coffee and to wait for the mist to lift a little so we could make the most of the gardens. The trip to Giverny is definitely worth while. You don't have to know much about Monet to appreciate his impressive garden. It is effectively in two parts which are dissected by a busy road. We're back in Paris on the last leg of our holiday. We decided to head back there a bit earlier to rest up and catch up on those things we didn't get to see and do the first time around. On our list is Notre Dame - celebrating its 850th birthday, Monet's house and gardens in Giverny, Disneyland Paris, a little cruise on the Seine, The Versailles, Montmartre, a day trip to Amsterdam and a traditional meal of snails and frogs legs. ... work out most of them - we had a banana jam, pineapple jam, raspberry and cherry jam... It was a great way to start our day and it would have been lovely to sit and linger for longer but time was against us. We must return here!
