    ... drove to Makryolagios, which I have to say is one of the most attractive beaches we've seen here. Gorgeous waters, sand, sand and more sand and lots of places to eat and drink. The perfect place to wind down before we return to Elounda and pack.     We ventured to Spinalonga on Thursday which has a varied history most recently as a Leper colony from 1903 to 1957. Whilst there is evidence of more than 500 years worth of settlements on the islet, it is the more recent communities that leave you with a overwhelming sense of sadness.
