... they spend the next 45 minutes getting mixed together and heated. After that they will separate the olive oil off the top watery mash. The oil is weighed and the remaining skin and seed extract becomes a brown mixture used to feed livestock. Out of 42 bags we had 2,000 Kg of olives that produced 318 liters of oil. Today we starting harvesting. The day of picking the olive off the ground are over. Today they use nets spread out over the area and the use a olive tree beater. It's a long shaft with a rotating head that has several rubber sticks that beat the tree branches and knock the olive off. What I thought was a peaceful harvest, is anything but. You need a generator to power the beaters and they hit the branches, constantly making noise and shredding the tree as olives are thrown ...
