Sat downstairs watching the morning light arrive. Still dark at 7 am but it was finally light at 8. not sure I would be able to cope with that. but next week when daylight saving finishes, it will change for the people living here. No rush this morning for breakfast. Made a few sandwiches and packed the little cooler for a day out.

... drive into town and go about their Saturday tasks. At the shop, there was one long wall containing bolts of plain coloured fabrics with every shade within the colours of the rainbow. The Amish women mostly wore very conservatively styled dresses of one solid colour but the colours were not muted. They were bright - green, purple, orange, red, blue. I saw one lady wearing floral but it was a muted Liberty style tone.

... at the car park, it started as a neatly mown path which petered out to a very poorly defined path. No wonder others had had difficulty.
Headed out from the park on highway 80 heading towards South Bend. At Ottawa (Illinois) we spent some time trying to find lunch. Walmart had not bread rolls and in the end we bought salads from Kroger which we ate beside the Illinois River.

We took I 86 and headed north and again the fall colors were beautiful. I'm fairly positive they are just as nice here as they were in Vermont a week or so ago. There were mixtures of red, orange, yellow, burgundy as well as a variety of hues of green. This would be a painters delight. I just hope the pictures we took will do it justice. ... We too can't take the winters. We headed down the road toward our next destination, Niagara Falls via Palmyra, NY. We got as far as South Bend, IN., home of Notre Dame University. We found a Walmart that would let us boondock in their parking lot with all the big rigs. We made some dinner and then carefully climbed in bed (no the bed is not fixed yet).
