      A bit of an underwhelming city to most it seems, but a pretty amazing site from beyond the river.

      We caught the train down with our city maps and many visited the funky elevator in the Vaucher sport shop, the Bear Pit (Bern was named after the Bear), Einstein's house and the cathedral had another interesting door.

      ... I had my reservation online in the US - there was no local number to call). It was a very small plane - 31 seats. Bern has a very small local airport, no large planes at all. I had arranged for a airline shuttle to take me into the city.

      When I arrived in Bern yesterday, it was really warm, probably about 80 degrees. Today, it is much cooler (thank goodness) and raining (yuck). Our regular tour program director apparently had plane problems so has not arrived ...

As we mentioned, all you have to do is sit on a train, and that train brings you 2000 vertical meters up (and through three mountains) so that you can enjoy some bubbly at a restaurant at 'The Top of Europe' as they call it.       We get into Switzerland by train and it's already gorgeous, all the mountains and lakes look just like every picture you’ve ever seen. Just look up Thun or Interlaken in google image search. I’m sure it’ll have pictures of what we saw from the train. It’s so amazing. I already decided to have a house here when I retire.
