Not much - just waiting at the airport for the flight! Bahrain was both nicer and more boring than I thought, the weather is a lot more forgiving but it's not worth more than about 3 days exploration tops.. Unless you like to get really nittygritty :P
Apparently the Bahrain-Saudi border is on a little island [not sure if it has an official name], which hosts a rest point on either side of the border, complete with matching observation towers. The whole road, which is 45km long, is called the King Fahad Causeway on the Bahraini side, with a different Saudi name.. Interesting stuff! :) Due to it being Ramadan and us not being ...

Got here yesterday, the flight in was only an hour and you got a really good view of all of Qatar from the air! [stupid wing blocked photo ops though]. No problems so far, immigration was a breeze, found the hotel OK and after relaxing some more [yes, we're lazy!] my mum and I hunted down a taxi to see the few sights in the built up north of the island
Firstly we drove through the big banking district, and I was reminded of a less-trafficy, shorter ...
... a-"come back in 2 hours (basically after all the Dubai people are dealt with and gone, I'm guessing). Since we had an hour or so, the southerner and I went up to the airport bar to have a few drinks. The place was playing music videos (at least some American) on a LCD TV and it had a vibe of what I thought a cheesy local joint might be like someplace in Europe (not having been there more than a few hours, can't say I have a very good idea). There wasn't much seating, so we asked to ...
Manama, Bahrain bohemianbadgerLast day in Saudi…woke up, showered, packed, and headed up to the usual breakfast. I called the front desk before I left and asked for a 9AM taxi. Breakfast was the same as before except this time there was mango juice. Was really good and reminded me of the stuff I had in Korea. Brushed my teeth and packed the last few items and went to check out. It took like 15 minutes to check out (U.S ...
Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia bohemianbadger... P - Petrol. It's just about the only thing that is cheap around here. Q - Qawha. Coffee. Traditional coffee is very, very strong. Despite the numerous American coffee shops around, it is very difficult to find a decent cup of brewed coffee. Starbucks is so terrible that we recently threw out our Venti coffees and walked down the street to another coffee shop. R - Road signs. Some translator in the Bahrain Department of Transportation is flexing his/her poetic muscle: "We ...
Manama, Bahrain elizabeth7901We had a lovely sleep in today. I like this going to bed in the wee hours of the morning and sleeping in. I could get used to this. We went to the local grocery store. Surprisingly, most things are in English. They do have a special section for pork, which I found rather amusing. All the white people were in there buying up sausages and bacon. Teehee! We came home and had a lovely BBQ in the 36degree heat. Actually, Kath & Paullie ...
Manama, Bahrain missfissy... expensive then the current holder of the title, Hong Kong's Airport) largest hotel, and only 7 star hotel in the world and finally People love there Bidets around here Burning Unanswered Questions How do they keep there robes so clean? All of the Filipinos don't like Dubai and claim the Philippines are cleaning, nicer, safer, and more prosperous, yet why are they in Dubai? How do Bahrainis look themselves in the mirror at night ...
Manama, Dubai, Bahrain midtowntsl0... Making a mental note of the 'every night but Thursday' for next time) The night went well into the morning with us ending up in a dance club called Liquid, techno music, strobe lighting and shots at the bar all getting a bit much when we hadn't been out for a while. So after stopping for food on the way home, as you do, Edwina and I gave up on the walking and hailed a cab waving to rest of the girls who were intent on walking the ten minutes home (Still at least 36 ...
Manama, Bahrain kimande... like that have a tendency to spiral out of nothing with little or no effort, so I thought it best to just get as far away as I could, as quickly as I could. I made it a little way down the block when someone grabbed my arm. Yea, I freaked, but I didn't hit the guy. It was the customer who I last saw chewing the clerk a new rectum. After an ever so brief moment where things could have gotten real ugly, the guy got his point across in very broken English. There I stood, on a dusty ...
