... supper together because one of our group is leaving in the morningand we are also on our own tomorrow night. The evening has a rather somber mood. Several of us order T-shirts that highlight our route.

Wednesday, October 21, and it’s now 2 months on our safari. It is already hot and steamy at 9 AM when we leave to go to see Victoria Falls. Twelve hundred km. (750 mi.) from its origin as an insignificant spring, the Zambezi River ...
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe boydandrose... also a sign in the camp ground it says “beware of the Hippos” They apparently wander around the campsite at night.
There has been an Egyptian guy “omar” trying to catch up with me by the Internet he is also traveling up Africa on a Honda 750 Africa twin. I could not believe it when he walked into the pub when we were having tea. So it looks like it might be 4 people traveling up Africa.
Have booked a rafting trip on the ...

Vic, Zimbabwe nickmofry... first that we would just be in an enclosure with them but we walked them into the grass along a path and back. It was brilliant! There was a female and male lion (Cosi was the male and Canoe the female). They are 14-month-old siblings. They were bought from a breeder and will be integrated into part of the lion conservation efforts. In the past 30 years the lion population in Africa has really been depleted and ALERT (the conservation area we ...
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe caralyn... that Irish don't need a visa for Zambia. We got our $50 back and left with huge grins on our faces! It kind of balances things out though because we have to pay $100 visa for Tanzania while everyone else pays $50, apparently the Ireland charges Tanzanians €60 for a Visa. After we got all the border formalities out of the way we had a short drive to the town of Livingston where we exchanged some US Dollars for Zambian Kwacha. My first purchase with this money was a ...
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe alandrach... br>Brittany and Lindsey had planned to bungee jump at Victoria Falls over the Zambezi River. We saw the bungee jumping bridge from afar and followed the path that appeared to be leading to the bridge. At the end of the path there was a man and he asked us if we wanted to bungee jump. We told him that we did so he lifted up a metal fence and told us to climb under it. After spending too much in Egypt, this did not seem at all sketchy to us so we climbed under the ...
Livingstone, Zambia kickthrough... 8217;s typical Africa I guess. Hopefully I’ll be strong enough to get out for it in the evening. I know I can’t handle 3pm heat.

Livingstone is apparently groover central for this part of Africa, backpacker hostels and such all over and mostly full, at least this time of year. Everybody’s coming and going on safaris and river trips; almost nobody is showing up for the music festival. I myself take a ‘game drive’ through ...
Livingstone, Zambia hardiek... are being upgraded. The chalets looked nice, and there are basic and luxury safari tents if you want a bit of luxury. It was really useful to have the lounge facilities to work on our laptop working on the travelblog and photos. The manager of the lodge is Australian (they get everywhere). Loads of birdlife around camp and signs warning beware of hippos, and we were told that elephants come into camp sometimes too. At night there ...
Livingstone, Zambia neilandchris... Victoria Falls. It was the most spectacular sight. Really hard to describe but I will try to upload some pictures that they took of us. Next we had our own tour guide drive us to Victoria Falls where we walked around and took loads of pictures. It is crazy the massive amount of water that falls over the edge. The spray from the falls flies up way past the cliffs above and then rains down on you. It is almost as if it is raining backwards. Plus there are rainbows everywhere! Ok ...
Livingstone, Zambia hb2africa... I bought one just for the hell of it.

Victoria Falls was very different from what I had imagined. The place was a ghost town (likely due to the political images of Mubage coming out of the Western press). The desperation of the town of apparent and a special police force called the tourism squad was dispatched to help protect visitors from harassment by local vendors.

I went to see the famed Victoria Falls. These falls ...
