Happy 6th Birthday to Zak. Caught the shuttle but into town which was a long way from the ship and it was quite hot, so we didn't walk. Had a look at an old Castle but couldn't take photos so decided not to go right inside. Walked up and down and around all the streets. 2009—Troodos and Limassol
On the drive to Limassol we decided to
take the detour through the Troodos mountains in hopes of seeing some
nice scenery and perhaps the painted churches of Troodos.

... and citrus. In summer they have to close the airport (June-July) due to the extremely high humidity creating a fog that you can barely see your hand in front of your face. Busy little port lots of container ships and there seemed to be a fish farm of some discription. Leaving port and I have just counted 14 large cargo ships waiting to dock geez puts our little Napier Port to shame huh? Deb

... the way to the airport, we visited the church at Kiti which has an amazing old mosaic, and last but not least, the Hala Sultan Tekkesi mosque. I couldn't find it last time, and inside there is a nice shrine, And then it was over, we were on our way back to the UK And Finally It was good to come back and see a few things in the normal Cyprus, but as I have said before, the wine, oh the wine, you just cannot beat the wine from a Med country !!!

We set off quite early to drive up to the Kykos Monestary, one of the more famous monestaries high up in the mountains where Archbishop Makarios retired to and is buried (he was the first and fourth president of Cyprus). I booked 4 months ahead a nice room at the Mill Hotel which is the best hotel in Kakopetria – a beautiful village that keeps its tradition. This beautiful village is about half an hour drive from the highest peak of the Troodos mountains.
