OUR VISIT

We are here this morning after breakfast. For many of my Greek friends this is their first visit up here.

We are driven to (throni) first, and the view is stunning. The beautiful vegetation of the area and the whole atmosphere of the place ...

Happy 6th Birthday to Zak. Caught the shuttle but into town which was a long way from the ship and it was quite hot, so we didn't walk. Had a look at an old Castle but couldn't take photos so decided not to go right inside. Walked up and down and around all the streets. Went down to the waterfront which had a huge park right along it on the other side of the road. No beach; it was all rocks but quite pretty and relaxing. We had lunch in a Greek cafe where the ...

... what ever she wants. The only drawback is that we are back to a tight budget. Still cheaper than Israel.

We have spent the last few days in Limassol, in the Republic of Cyprus trying to figure away off this little island, but unfortunately we have come to a dead end. There is no way out from this side unless you fly (which after having come all this way we don't really want to). The only ...

Troodos Trouble

Friday, July 3rd,
2009—Troodos and Limassol
On the drive to Limassol we decided to
take the detour through the Troodos mountains in hopes of seeing some
nice scenery and perhaps the painted churches of Troodos.
Unfortunately all we discovered were poorly signed roads and more
winding mountain highway. The ride was spectacular but a little
disappointed once we had reached Troodos. It ...

... and citrus. In summer they have to close the airport (June-July) due to the extremely high humidity creating a fog that you can barely see your hand in front of your face. Busy little port lots of container ships and there seemed to be a fish farm of some discription. Leaving port and I have just counted 14 large cargo ships waiting to dock geez puts our little Napier Port to shame huh? Deb

... the way to the airport, we visited the church at Kiti which has an amazing old mosaic, and last but not least, the Hala Sultan Tekkesi mosque. I couldn't find it last time, and inside there is a nice shrine, And then it was over, we were on our way back to the UK And Finally It was good to come back and see a few things in the normal Cyprus, but as I have said before, the wine, oh the wine, you just cannot beat the wine from a Med country !!!

... from me next week when the paper comes in. then Jayne and I would go so she can bring in her passport and do the final step in her visa. This was the second time I called on her cell phone. You'd think that she would call back to say something as she would see missed calls. Calling her office phone I was told that the number is wrong. This is poor service by Maria. Richard called to say that he might be going to New ...

Up to Kykos

We set off quite early to drive up to the Kykos Monestary, one of the more famous monestaries high up in the mountains where Archbishop Makarios retired to and is buried (he was the first and fourth president of Cyprus). We took our time driving up, the roads are good but very twisting, and there are some magnificent views that should be stopped at to take in properly. On the way up the mountains we ...

Tips on bringing a computer

... with you. If you can't make sure you turn of the power when an electrical storm comes. Bring a memory stick with you. There may be places that you go where you cannot hook up your computer to the Internet café that you go to. At least you can transfer the information to your laptop later. See that your anti-virus program is updated. Many of us let it expire before we renew. Do not bring your computer case with you. Walking on the streets with ...

I booked 4 months ahead a nice room at the Mill Hotel which is the best hotel in Kakopetria – a beautiful village that keeps its tradition. This beautiful village is about half an hour drive from the highest peak of the Troodos mountains.

The name of the village in Greek ...
