Verona, Veneto, Italy frdrick... I think the oldest building I've ever been in - it was built in 30 AD (that's a 2 digit year, not a typo)
Castelvechio was also pretty cool and had some great art inside.
Stopped at Osteria Verona in the main square for some predinner drinks and had some awesome house wine before going to La Taverna Di Via Stella for dinner. Really nice place with friendly staff and great food. Had ...
......... So apparently the title is a quote from Romeo and Juliet...... You learn something new every day!
So we only stopped here for a couple of hours as a rest stop but it was pretty cool.
Verona is a very pretty town that is famous for Juliet Capulet's balcony and the entrance to the balcony is where all the lovey dovey couples write ...
... own special charm, and lured me in!! Now of course, nothing that had to do with my love for this town...we did of course visit the famous balcony of Juliet, and Romeo's house, and Juliet's tomb. (Even though there is no physical evidence of people by those names ever existing...)
So we left the place of love behind and drove on up into Germany...
... caught a vaporetta which is just like a ferry down the Grand Canal, under Ponte de Rialto to Piazza San Marco where the markets selling tourist stuff were right where we got off. Katelyn was impressed with the Carnivale masks which were pretty impressive and not really that expensive (probably made in Asia). St Mark’s Square was flooded right in front of the cathedral and they had a narrow timber walkway for people to ...
Verona, Veneto, Italy kiama_on_tour... a bit disappointed to find out it was booked so far in advance. The church next door had some amazing paintings, though, and looking around the Milan area was nice. Our parking spot started to worry us, though, and both of us were pretty much over walking around in the rain, so we decided to give some of the sites a miss and head back to Fred. It was right at peak hour traffic so we avoided driving into the main city and left for Verona instead.
It was a ...
Arriving in Peschiera del Garda station the heat is remarkable, We sit on a bench under a tree waiting for the taxi to arrive. Nothing turns up for 45mins! we speak to the local newsagents and it turns out we have to call for one, turns up 15mins later and we arrive at the family camping resort San Benedetto. The only place to pitch a tent is next to the campsite playing field on ...
Peschiera del Garda, Veneto, Italy azzy964... Verona train station, we took the bus (€1.20 ) going to Piazza Bra. VERONA was amazing... It comes out straight from a fairy tale. All that time, no one ...
Verona, Veneto, Italy jandepq5... Simply stunning and only a very short distance to Venice and Lake Garda. Perfect. TIPS: use the air port shuttle bus to porto nouva station ( 30 mins =cheap) Don't eat near the Opera Arena, too many loud tourist and not enough locals/ bad food DO EAT - at the Ponte Navi Pizzeria right on the Ponte Navi Bridge, mostly locals, fantastic wine, Calzone & Tiramisu. Ciao
Verona, Italy louonthego... either way in terms of authenticity, one specific balcony near Piazza Erbe is said to be that of Juliet. The women were lining up to pay for a balcony view, while the men were taking their photographs from below. Then the men would line up to rub Juliet's bronze breast while the women took the photographs. Alli and I of course did neither, and the most haunting view of the whole area was after dark, when they locked the gates, and the illuminated statue glowed ...
