    Lake Como in the Rain

    ... of our journey.

We were ready, but the Swiss weren't! The most memorable part of the journey was not the beautiful scenery, the picture postcard lakeside villages, the mountains, or the waterfalls. Instead, it was the 2 hour queue waiting to get through the 17km Gotthard-Strassentunnel on the A2. That meant our planned stop in Lucerne was abandoned, and we got to Strasbourg at about 9pm. In time for a late dinner in the restaurant next to the Ibis hotel we stayed at, and ...

... return our security deposit, and to call Jane "the perfect wife" - not like those Nowegians from a couple of weeks ago who left such a terrible mess.

As we made our way further and further north, we soon lost count of the number of miles a stationary traffic going in the other direction.

We had planned a stop in Modena for lunch, but unable to easily find somewhere nice, we finally ended up in a ...

We woke at a reasonable hour and had breakfast at the hotel. The boys enjoy the idea of getting their own breakfast and the buffet concept!! When we were ready we walked down to the lake and got the 10.25am ferry to Bellagio. It was a 2 hour 20 minute trip that zig zagged across the lake to all the beautiful towns that sit along the waterline. It was a glorious, sunny day and Geoff and I enjoyed soaking up the rays on the back of ...

... and reminded us a little of Clovelly in the UK. Craig took me on a walking tour – seeing churches, views, gardens and shops. Around 11 we had a yummy ham, cheese, salad and mayonnaise sandwich. Each individual ingredient was truly yummy. And… the coffee was good again.

Next we went across the water to Villa Carlotta, which was a 17th Century classic Villa with a ...

    July 21, Monday – Como

SORRY I AM CATCHING UP ON A WEEK WITHOUT WIFI!

Woke up and walked down to the waterfront to take the water taxi to Como – all proved quite easy. We chatted with a friendly local who was nice, but also gave me Jehovah's witness reading material afterwards – no pressure. As it was Monday, Como seemed quite quiet but very pretty. We saw the Duomo but unfortunately our camera lense stuffed up. ...
