We don't make the 297 step climb to the top, and instead walk all around the Piazza before having dinner at a pizza restaurant close to the tower. Before heading back to the hotel, we take the photos most often seen of this landmark - trying to hold up the tower and trying to push it over.

... gelatos in Lucca, so not all bad, and eventually got back to the station in plenty of time. There was however still time for a minor panic as we were informed our train didn't have any electricity supply so the doors wouldn't open and the motor wouldn't run of course.
Happily a man from TrenItalia came along with a bit of tin foil, a screwdriver and some string and away we went.
