Big city life in Hanoi
Onze laatste 2 dagen in Hanoi verliepen rustig.
Back to Hanoi for 3 nights - Hayley
We got back from the boat trip at tea time and chilled for an hour, and showered and changed. The night market was on so we thought we would go for a nose. Firstly though we stopped in a restaurant and had a meal. I got sweet and sour prawn, Peter got a pizza. He ordered a sandwich too but realised he was being greedy so he asked for that to be …
Downtime in Luang Prabang & Flight to Hanoi
What a treat...no wake up call today. Leisurely breakfast on balcony of hotel enjoying the nice weather. Walked over to the laundry to pick up our clothes. Everything was done, dry and folded. Spent time organizing for next leg of journey since we have a two night stay in Hanoi followed by a day on the junk in Halong Bay and a one night home stay …
Hanoi
Today was a long day in Hanoi. Up at 6 AM for a 6:30 breakfast, quick trip to the ATM for Dong and then picked up at 8. Our first stop was to Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and the Presidential Palace Area. Although Ho Chi Minh wished to be cremated, he lies in state in the mausoleum. We saw the various houses on the grounds where he lived over the years …
Crazy wonderful Hanoi
Yesterday we traveled to Hanoi from Hue, via the return car trip to Danang to catch our 1 hour flight.
The return drive was not much better than the last but at least our driver was friendly and had some limited english. He pointed out a few weddings to us (many of the brides wear bright red here and they are quite beautiful looking) and a …

From the second we checked in the staff could not have been more helpful. From giving us a free room upgrade twice (we stayed there twice) to just helping us out with recommendations or arranging taxis.
The rooms are absolutely superb we had a suite on a high floor which really was fantastic. Very nicely appointed with a great bathroom and shower too.
The hotel were kind enough to book a train to Hue for us, even securing us a discount on the published ticket price.
The service was truly impeccable, the hotel spotlessly clean and every single member of staff a joy to talk with. We asked room service for some milk for our coffee, and two minutes later there was a knock on the door. The lady then started to apologise profusely for having knocked as we had the Do Not Disturb sign on...brilliant..!
We have been fortunate enough to have stayed in some wonderful hotels around the world but none with the level of service quite like this. One thing I have never experienced is a hotel sending a member of staff with you in a tax to the train station. That member of staff then confirming your tickets, carrying your bags to the train, finding your cabin, putting your luggage away and then giving you a safety lesson on who to trust and who not to trust on the trains and the platforms. The cost for this service....nada, not a bean....only the taxi fare back to the hotel (and a good tip obviously).
Truly an amazing hotel.
