Anyone can build a hotel and furnish it nicely, equip it with anything you might possibly need to make your stay more pleasant. Some can have a fantastic location close to the action, and some great restaurants. But nobody I have ever come across in any hotel of any class anywhere in the world has people like those at the Elegance Diamond. The staff are just phenomenal from the porters to the French Chef, the service is outstanding from check in to check out. There is a pride and a professionalism there that has to be experienced to be believed. And there is a genuine desire on the part of the staff that your stay be as pleasant as possible. We loved it.

      Amazing Place

From the second we checked in the staff could not have been more helpful. From giving us a free room upgrade twice (we stayed there twice) to just helping us out with recommendations or arranging taxis.

The rooms are absolutely superb we had a suite on a high floor which really was fantastic. Very nicely appointed with a great bathroom and shower too.

The hotel were kind enough to book a train to Hue for us, even securing us a discount on the published ticket price.

The service was truly impeccable, the hotel spotlessly clean and every single member of staff a joy to talk with. We asked room service for some milk for our coffee, and two minutes later there was a knock on the door. The lady then started to apologise profusely for having knocked as we had the Do Not Disturb sign on...brilliant..!

We have been fortunate enough to have stayed in some wonderful hotels around the world but none with the level of service quite like this. One thing I have never experienced is a hotel sending a member of staff with you in a tax to the train station. That member of staff then confirming your tickets, carrying your bags to the train, finding your cabin, putting your luggage away and then giving you a safety lesson on who to trust and who not to trust on the trains and the platforms. The cost for this service....nada, not a bean....only the taxi fare back to the hotel (and a good tip obviously).

      Truly an amazing hotel.

Back to Hanoi for 3 nights

We got back from the boat trip at tea time and chilled for an hour, and showered and changed. The night market was on so we thought we would go for a nose. Firstly though we stopped in a restaurant and had a meal. I got sweet and sour prawn, Peter got a pizza and a sandwich. We also had a bottle of wine, all for the grand total of 12!!

Wendy and I left Seattle at 1am on Monday the 26th of November. Our flight to Taipei was suprisingly uneventful and the 13.5 hours seemed to pass fairly quickly. The airport in Taipei was beautiful and we were able to stretch our legs and see some nice area's. After another short 3 hour flight we arrived in Hanoi at about 1pm on Tuesday November 27th where we got our visa and made it through customs with ease. We were ...

... vraiment un touriste, hein!? Demain, c'est la fête nationale du Vietnam. Il paraît que y'a plein de trucs de fermés, mais il paraît aussi qu'il y a une grande fête avec feux d'artifices. On verra bien. Le 3, on part pour la baie d'Along. Bien hâte de voir. Sur ce je vous laisse. Je suis encore un peu décalé horairement. ... door in the end, spent ages deciding which one to do, were told we could book with credit card and when we came to pay, he insisted it had to be cash. Nothing is easy here! We told him that we would go elsewhere if we couldn't use the card and in the end he gave in, a little suspicious but it was late and we were tired!

We bought a couple of fresh juices and headed back to the hotel to enjoy some cool, 'fresh' air, while we packed for our trip! Let's hope it's what we paid ...

... and decided to go out, grab some dinner and chat them over.

Some friends who'd been to Vietnam already recommended a restaurant called Little Hanoi so we decided to check it out. On the menu was 'roll your own' spring rolls but I was super hungry and opted for something more substantial. They looked good though and I wished I'd ordered them as well. We also found a good little pub called Mr Mao's Red Lounge. The decor was fab, it looked a little like a cross between ...
