... been developed over the past fifteen years as a major resort. I stayed in the Elysium Hotel. This is one of the most recent additions to the five star hotels in Paphos. It is my preferred hotel in Paphos for two main reasons, firstly ...
Paphos, Cyprus paulatluxuryWe stayed in Polis for the morning and left after a last lunch at one of the restaurants in town. We were sorry to leave Polis, it's a lovely little place, so relaxed and quiet, we got very comfortable there! We headed off down to Paphos and looked around the Fort & the ruins of Old Paphos before watching a stunning sunset over the sea, having dinner in the harbour and heading back to the airport to fly home...
Paphos, Cyprus anneowensWe stayed local today, but the beach at Polis isn't that great so we scooted down the road to Latsis and the beach there. Latsis (or Latchi) was once a small village by the sea but now it's enveloped in new developments of holiday villas. It's sort of stretched out along the road with a few restaurants and bars n the middle. The beach is nice if you go to the bit behind the restaurants as the main road ...
Polis, Cyprus anneowens... across the mountains. And this began Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Now, if
you have read previous entries I'm new to driving on the left. And
I'm was new driving around mountains...and on gravel....dirt
roads.....and the like. As you will see from the pictures the views
were stunning but the journey to cover a mere 20 kilometres took us
close to two hours. It was exciting in the end and the views were
spectacular.
Paphos, Cyprus lantian1979... hold onto the wing. Needless to say
but the time we got to the gate, there were maybe five people there.
But at least we had made it and I could breathe easy. The plane
boarded on time, however, we were delayed by half an hour and unable
to take off until 10am. And that's where I am now. Miles above the
ground, flying over Germany on my way to Paphos.

I arrived in Paphos without incident
and fairly quickly found the pick up ...
Paphos, Cyprus lantian1979... plenty of character, the only thing I would say against it is that it's a bit too British. To the North West of Paphos is the beautiful Coral Bay and to the five star Coral Beach Hotel LINK which is located in the middle of the bay and on the sandy beach. The beach at Coral Bay is one of the best in eastern Cyprus. The stunning Thalassa Boutique Hotel LINK is on a peninsula at on end of Coral Bay with sea on three sides. The very stylish suites have views of the sunrise or ...
paphos, Cyprus paulatluxuryHaving a car we decided to take ourselves off to spend the day at Coral Beach which, we'd heard, was one of the nicest in Cyprus. It's about half-way between Polis & Paphos and took about 45 minutes to drive to. The town wasn't particularly nice, a bit like Blackpool, and we were glad we had decided to stay in Polis (we had been looking at hotels in Coral Beach but they were quite expensive ...
Polis, Cyprus anneowens... Kykos we drove on a bit to a little village called Pedolas which has an incredibly old Byzantine church. It also has a musum stuffed full of icons from various local churches. The museum and church are owned and run by people who live in the village and we met a couple of real characters! We drove back to Polis & were back in time for dinner at one of the restaurants in the town. Lovely day!
Polis, Cyprus anneowens... it's pretty long. We walked a smaller circular route that took about 3 hours, it was gorgeous. It was very hot & we were glad to have taken plenty of our own water because there are no facilities except at the entrance. We stopped for a late lunch at a beachside restaurant in a little village called Latsis on the way back to Polis.
Polis, Cyprus anneowens... the night there, and drive all the way to our residence early the following morning.

Unbelievable what we could see. The fire had reached the last bushes down the sea.

And this trip ends here unexpectedly.

We spent 4 months working on the house, cleaning and having it painted again.

It was a nightmare, but we survived. This incident made us stronger.
