Getting to Koycegiz was a bit of a logistical nightmare, (I think from Selcuk - it was three buses!!) but I got there in the end. I stayed in a guesthouse that was recommended to me from the guys I stayed with in Selcuk and it paled in comparision - but possibly because I was only one of two people staying there. The owner was a slightly strange man and he had an 'assistant' who can only be ...
Koycegiz, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey travellingjen... There have been quite a few places I have been and been grateful for the big and small things I am used to - whether it be a well prepared meal, a western style toilet or even just people able to speak English. I think the problem starts when an area actively TRIES to be a tourist haven.
In this case the local shops all stop trying to be pleasant shops of whatever culture or vibe they might normally choose, but instead try ...
... around. I got to go in first while Chris and Damien watched, but the guard was too alert for any subterfuge. It wasn't really a problem, as the baths were also a giant waste of money. I barely noticed the warm water, so busy was I dodging swirls of green goo and flaccid pink Germans. We wandered around the ancient ruins and in the early afternoon made our way to the Marmaris peninsula on the south coast.

So we headed for their hostel and soon came about 50 yards from jessica and Phoenix's hostel. "Hey, that's where we stayed!"
Hayden couldn't find the hostel he was looking for so he jumped out and started walking, but Ali had it figured out, he just hadn't been able to tell Hayden. He followed slowly in the bus, a big grin on his face ...
... sources. But in this case, Lagina is a lesser known and visited site. And I found some of the stone work exceptionally fine and delicate, even clean and crisp in some instances. As a sanctuary to Hecate, dare I say that some of the stone carving had an appealing effete quality to it. I say that with admiration.
I'm sure there are those who wonder why I visit these places and spend so much time merely gazing at stone wreakage and carving ...
... such rocks. And, on my mind was a recent news piece of a woman who had a facial transplant. You can't really use your hands, for balance as the rocks are too sharp to touch with any force, and the growing things all have incredibly sharp spines.
So, after a while it didn't become so much fun. I just wanted to get out of that environment. But, that's what I do, sometimes getting myself into these situations.
Eventually I got back over to the ridge line. Same rocks and ...
... Our group is good - ten of us until Aleppo and then we meet some new people (4 Canadians, 2 Americans, 1 Swiss, 3 Brits). 7 of us our making our way through the entire 36 day tour. Our tour leader is Furkan and he is quite good. I'm not sure when our next update will be due to the remoteness of the areas we will be in but I will try to update. We 're having a blast and don't worry too much about us (Mom & Dad!). -Jonathan
Dalyan, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey joncyn... at the end of March and I needed to be in a location long enough to receive a new replacement. Also, of less importance, surely, the end of the quarter coincided with my birthday. Oh, and I also needed a stable place to work on my U.S. income taxes. (That, too, another story).
The replacement ATM card was sent to my niece in New Jersey, who, on March 11th sent it on to me in Ankara. It never arrived. Without it, of course, I couldn't obtain money or ...
