Went panning for gold.  Got a little gold dust.  2 weeks later was told that someone found the largest gold nugget ever right where we were panning!  I thought that was an awfully heavy rock I threw out of my pan so I could get to the dust!

The Canadian 'outback'

... was fine though we were warned that the hotels out here are ‘rustic’. That night we went to a show at the hotel ‘Frantic Follies’ (typical of what they had in the old days). It was a great show and they had some very talented musicians, singers, comedians in their little group of 8. One of the singers said it was his 22nd year doing the show. Everything here is just for the season. In September everything closes down for the winter and half the population ...

... and it is impressive, but it's nothing like this road. The color in the tundra was absolutely amazing and the views went on forever. At the border we gave the lady our passports and answered her questions and we were in Canada. Just past the border station is a pullout which also happens to be the highest point of the Top of the World Highway (4,515 ft). On the hillsides of the parking area are small cairns of ...

Happy Day As I Arrive in Dawson City

... drop in point for canoeists who will travel the Yukon River to Dawson City. An interesting campground is the Coal River Campground which has tent sites, trailer hook-ups and is directly on the Yukon River, so people doing the Whitehorse to Dawson City tour have a place to stop off, have a shower, and food at the small restaurant. A cute joke was posted on the wall of the restaurant. I have attached a photo of the joke. I hope you enjoy. One of the places to stop for a ...

Tok to Dawson City, Yukon via Top of the World Hwy

Wow!!! What a road we took today!!! Before we started, however, we needed some fuel. So after an early wake-up (6:00 am) we did most of the packing and then went to the office for a great pancake breakfast. Now yesterday, Pooh won a free breakfast by tossing a pancake into a bucket. So it was not so expensive - another two for one deal. Again, the sourdough pancakes were great with tons of butter and warm maple syrup. After this, we took off for Dawson City ...

Day 63 Chicken to Dawson City

... been told from 45 miles to 100 miles to look forward to experiencing. To be realistic the road taken at a safe speed was not as bad as had been portrayed. Care had to be taken at some points to squish past oncoming traffic, but ok really if care is taken, although we did come across a big rig RV (bus with a tow car) parked at a really bad angle with the rear wheels off the ground. He had obviously gone over to the edge to far, if he had rolled he would ...

There was a Grizzly close to our campsite the night before we got there but we are somewhat used to this from Canmore. What a great place. There were quite a few people driving all the way to Inuvik. Lots of folks on motorcycles. Lots of BMWs Lorna. Mostly the GS 1200 the big brother to your 650 ...
