Day 9

Okay, so now I don't think I was staying in the slums of Santa Cruz my first night here. I think that is what most of the country is like. I have now driven through this country for several hours and every house has either a fence, bars over their doors and windows or both. They even have this in little country towns which is so unusual. We don’t see that in the states unless it is the slums of a city. One other unique thing ...

Progress...

... We stood under the covered porch and she did a little rain dance. LOVED IT! LOVED HER!

Catalina asked me if I wanted her to wash my clothes today. (No one has asked me that since I was nine.) Ummm…so okay. I have enough clean clothes (and especially underwear) to last until I leave. My only dilemma is the absolute clean clothes freak in me really wanted to have the clothes washed today. I declined though. I am ...

Soy gringa pero no es mi culpa!

... Valley granola bars again. Then we went to the beach - we had to take a bus. It was a nice beach; I liked it more than the other beach we visited on the Pacific Coast. We had lunch on the beach, did our homework on the beach, did some shopping in the area, kinda just hung around. I found a tshirt (I didn't buy it) but it said, "soy gringa pero no es mi culpa! I thought it was hillarious - I'm a gringa but it isn't my fault! haha). I didn't get ...

Ticos!!

... for that in Spanish… was an experience to say the least. Our afternoon class is three hours, four days a week and is a Spanish class. Two days a week we focus on reading and writing and the other two days we focus on speaking and grammar. I have definitely already learned a lot but 6 hours of class is a bit much for me every day. Luckily Ticos (what Costa Ricans call one another) drink coffee like ...

... a hotel for several days that so nicely excepted our dogs. It sits up on the hill overlooking the jungle with the most amazing view. Our house that we are going to rent will be ready in a few days. The girls and I are tired but have much to do. I packed a few dishes, coffee maker etc. We need to get beds and such tomorrow.

Shoe shopping

... stock up on the bits n pieces that i need to replace or now realise i need...so i went shopping...literally walking from one end of town to the other (and a 3rd end too, right to the outskirts, after taking a wrong turn right at the start).

1) Memory Stick - 4 gigs for 11 quid. Fair enough.
2) Alarm Clock - a fiver! Thought it would be cheaper...
3) Shoes - Lots to choose from, nothing except boots in a 12 though, and im not ...

Christmas and New year

... Christmas day I woke up feeling all better. I was surprised to see that Santa had brought all of the children stockings filled with great stuff. I got an orange an apple some chocolate coins, 100 colones, a mango flavoured lolly pop, a wooden trompo and a braclet. I also got new pj's, a harmonica, 2 Lego sets, some hotweels and best of all, a new bcycle! I enjoyed Christmas morning with my friends. My mom got some bamboo pieces that dad will make into a canopy bed and ...

Turtles, Monkeys and Children!

... to places with some tours and adventure and, it had the volunteering component I was looking for. Because all my arrangements had to be kind of last minute, I was a little worried it wouldn't work out. But after a couple emails and telephone calls, everything seemed to fall into place. Roberto from the office ...
