We find out from her that Imaginative Traveller has been bought out and is in the process of restructuring and will operate for the more budget conscious (ala Geckos). Her position will also be terminated after the Egyptian portion of our tour. This may explain, in part, why we have encountered so much difficulty with Imaginative Traveller in ...

... large and a very busy port. We spent the day sitting on our chaise lounge with a couple from Florida and watched the scenery change constantly. Even though there is alot of sand on one side the other side is built up. It also amazed us at the mitlitary presence along both sides of the canal and all the compounds with guards and guns. We were greeted with waves all along the trip. The canal can handle 110 ships in a 24 hour period and the ...

... shoulders after that little episode.

4. Egyptian kids love to say hello when they see a foreigner. usually comes out as hallo. Egyptian people also usually only say three things to me: 1) Where are you from? 2) welcome to Egypt 3) taxi?. Still at least they can speak some English unlike my Arabic which is limited. Need to learn a few more phrases. Usually brings a smile to their faces when I say something in Arabic, even if it is thank you or yes.

Suffering fuuls gladly

So where were we? Khartoum, Sudan. And where are we? Alexandria, in Northern Egypt. Since the last update we have covered a whopping 2500kms. We have not done the stats (...yet), but this is likely to be the largest distance travelled between updates. Sudan turned out to be a joy. OK, so the hotels were a bit grotty and over-priced. The food was tasty but very one-dimensional (25 days in Sudan, 24 days eating fuul!). The 'sights' were far inferior ...
