One day we hope to find and read more of the long and complicated history of Tavira, beyond the "cliff notes" version found in the gravel guides. Suffice it to say for now that at one time, Tavira was one of Portugal's important cities, a base for some of the Portuguese seafarers' exploits and the economic and social development of Portugal, and, especially, the Algarve.
