La Ticla

After leaving Manzi we left for a wave known as La Ticla. Well actually the town is called La Ticla. The waves were small but fun and we found a nice spot to camp out at for 40 pesos a night, not bad. Ticla is definetly a good spot, still pretty remote and not a lot of tourist infrastucture.

"Stuck" in Manzanillo

... making sure we weren't drifting to shore proceeded to rock and sway for the remainder of the night. Josh pulled an all nighter watching out for the large container ships which often come into Manzanillo as its one of the largest ports on the entire Pacific Coast. Without an engine and with no wind there was really nothing we could do but expect they would not hit us, haha. In the morning ...

Next was Faro de Bucerias on another undeveloped bit of coast - supposed to be good ( I'd heard it wasn't) snorkelling but the water was a bit rough, had jellies & scummy around the rocks, so I wasn't inclined. Got a nice little cabana & enjoyed some good seafood & sunsets & walks up the rocks for views and up the coast for more unspoilt bays.

Ready to return to the coast at Manzanillo - what an ugly industrial city, with a large affluent port separating downtown from the tourist areas in the north - took a bus most of the way to La Boquita - guide book failed to mention only goes to within 3k's - have to walk the rest through a gated estate and croc filled mangroves - managed to hitch the last k, but well hot & bothered by then! Disappointing too ...

Colima

... that outlines our intended route we still had a long way to go and many destinations to visit. The other theme was that none of our destinations were large cities. We arrived in Colima at about 22:00 in total darkness. It is not a good idea to arrive in a strange city after dark but our routine of getting into a cab and asking the cab driver to take us to a reasonably priced hotel had been well established and it worked out well in Colima as well. Although ...

Next stop Manzanillo

Day 13 - Manzanillo, Mexico The Sun docked in the cargo port which was about 3 miles outside Manzanillo, and the same distance to the beaches in the other direction. We didn't get into any of the beach resort tours that we wanted and we didn't score any last minute openings on the waiting lists, so we decided to just take the shuttle ...

Mazatlan-Tecoman

A beach with great surf, two 8 rooms hotels and a small bar called Tsunami. We got stuck with the truck at the beach after driving from Mazatlan to Guadalajara. A friendly local helped us getting out of the sand. We met some people from Australia, New Zeland, and San Diego.

Barra to La Cruz

Barra de Navidad - La Cruz (February 14, 2007- February 24, 2007) Our last entry was from Barra de Navidad, on Valentine's Day. We enjoyed being anchored in the small lagoon, and went to town almost daily. We bought croissants from the French Baker several times, as he came around to all the boats selling his wares. Kate and Jordyn, from Sassona spent a lot of time on their beading projects also. This will be our most southern point on this trip; we now will make our way slowly back to ...

La Cruz to Barra de Navidad

... and also Sassona who we had travelled down with. We spent the next week doing various activities with these two families. Kate was really happy to see Julie and her friend Jordyn again. We did some good snorkelling off the rocks and had a great star watching night aboard Fantasia. Several times we all went in and drank beers in the little palapa on the beach while the kids played in the water or in the sand. One day we took a "jungle cruise" up the river ...
