... quirk of this season is the fact that there is only one campground open in the park. We hustled up to Signal Mountain and staked out our claim to a site that had a view of the mountains, if it clears up. The mountains had been socked in all day, but as the afternoon went on the clouds started to break up giving us peeks at the peaks, so to speak. Having secured our place for the night we headed up to Coulter Bay.

Got some nice pics of jackson hole from up there and had to cook up some spaghetti to calm my hunger. ... younger guests on our trip were unable to raft because of safety (more on this as you read on) however they were given the opportunity to do a water float instead in a calmer partof the Snake River. There were 21 of us who went rafting: 19 guests and our two guides (Micheal and Geraldine.)

... too much radioactive lava dust from back down the road. In any event, it was truly one of the many unique moments on this adventure that I won’t soon forget.

As we closed in on the edge of Idaho, we passed through the small town of Swan Valley and turned north on Hwy 31 toward the Wyoming state line. This was the shortest route to the Jackson Hole area and The Grand Teton National Park; this was mistake number three for the day.

We started out this morning for a day trip to the Grand Teton. We could not ask for better weather. We got about 5 miles into Yellowstone when we see this herd of elk.
