... this. I have learned and continued to be reminded that I am not Dominican, as much as I may look it! I am looking forward to a short vacation to Ohio during the month of November to refresh me, give me a new perspective and to reconnect with friends and family. It is also sure that I will be rooting the Buckeyes onto victory as we beat Michigan on November 22nd! Best wishes and Happy Holidays to you and your family! Love, Jennifer
Samaná Peninsula, Samaná Peninsula, Dominican Republic jayrbird... Spanish native peoples, and more. The history of the area is absolutely fascinating. Here's some of what I know: The early history is that native peoples have lived here for centuries before the invasion of the white folks. There are caves with drawings and sculpture as evidence in the National Park, Los Haitises. In January 1493, Christopher Columbus arrived at Playa Las Flechas, (just down the road from me!). The Spaniards loosely ruled ...
Samaná Peninsula, Samaná Peninsula, Dominican Republic jayrbird... about 10). I just told him we were going so fast because of all the weight we were carrying. Road rules, like rubbish bins, are either non-existent or not used very much. There are no road signs, no road markings, and you just have to work out what you´re supposed to be doing by what everyone else is doing (and what direction they´re driving in). You don´t have to use indicators (in fact you stand out if you do) and you can park anywhere, any way on either side ...
Samaná Peninsula, Dominican Republic couplakiwisCortecito is another fantastic beach and i find a good beach hut to stay in. The day is spent watching a lot of beautiful women on the beach. Either the women there are particularly beautiful or there is some truth in the statement that "beer makes women beautiful" I find a very popular seafood restaurant. You walk up to a counter and buy the fish / seafood you want to eat and then they grill it for you and serve it will sides like tropical fruits and fried ...

Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic margaretkirlin... or if anything else I have attempted here falls, is something that makes me want to stay another year, even though I am more than ready to get back home. I guess I am just beginning to realize that the biggest and best things I am doing here I will never recieve a ¨thank you¨ for nor will I see the big results I want to see. I just have to have faith that with every passing moment that I have tried to do good, that Good will prevail.
Pimentel, Dominican Republic lisalew... daughter - who lives next to the hotel I crashed in yesterday and is visiting from NJ - before discovering that her mother rents a few rooms to foreigners. And so I have a cheap place to stay and a local guide. I'll tell the story of my new acquaintance later, for she's had a wild ride going from the depths of Santo Domingo to the heights of US residency. Of the two popular choices to get along here among single women with little ...
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic chimichenga... yay! We will be there for 5 weeks, and then we will come back to the Capitol for the last three weeks. Ok, thanks for all the emails! It's so nice to hear from people, seriously. Oh, I have also been told that if people want to call me here they should look into Skype. It's an internet thing, and it's free to download. To call the Dominican is like .11 cents, which is pretty good, and it's free to call computer to ...
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic kelsianne82After the critters had all been caught and faced their fate in my house, I decided that it would be better to now contribute something that gave to life...and thus came the ILAC medical mission. Every year doctors from institutions from the United States come to perform surgeries and medical checks to Dominicans and Hatitians who could not afford such healthcare. We as Peace Corps Volunteers possess two valuable things that these doctors need: love ...
