This summer I went to the Canary Islands with my friends. We did a lot of things there; we went to the swimming pool, partying, to the dune beach, and to the aqua park party...

Also, one day we went to one beach where there were a lot of water sports and we practised the motorskying, parasailing and a los of things.

Finally we come back to Spain with hangovers and our bodies very pained becouse we fell many ...

We can't wait to get started!

We have been working hard to prepare for the Atlantic crossing.

Geoff has become an expert supermarket shopper (watch out Mary!) with the fantastic support of Diane.

Tim has been working on all matters to do with the boat and especially our navigation equipment. We have a yellow brick tracker on board which will be transmitting our position on a regular basis to the arc website http://www.worldcruising.com/arc/eventf leetviewer.aspx

... filled the sails and the trip was done entirely by motor. But the seas were calm, beautiful and brimming with life. Over the three days we enjoyed indian cuisine, attempted at fresh fish and conversations covered a wealth of topics. We saw the odd turtle enjoying the sunshine and a beautiful and lively pod of 12 dolphins came to dance in the bow wave. In the distance we saw the blow hole signs of whales, the tail up the air display and the odd riding fin.

... and Mauretania. The Canary Islands (there are 7 main ones) receive the "Sakkara (sp?)" wind that blows across the Sahara to the Islands. We are 200 kms off the African coast. When the Sakkara blows the temperatures on the Canary Islands can reach up to 45 degrees. We has a nice toasty high today under blue skies of 36 degrees.

Anyway, the Canary Islands were inhabited for 2500 years by cave dwellers, there were ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Bungalows El Palmeral Maspalomas

Did we stay at the same place??

    from anonymous

El Palmeral bungalows are in a good location and less than two minutes walk to the Faro2 complex. The staff are extremerly friendly (with exception to night warden) and can not do enough to help you. There is a small on site supermarket but the Faro2 is slightly cheaper and better stocked.

The lounge/dining are has two bench seats and a dining table with two wicker chairs. There are plates/cups for four people and a two ring hob used mainly for boiling the kettle. The bathrooms are a good size but we found that the water boiler was the temperature of molten rock but this could be adjusted.

The patios are a good size and there are least two sun beds for every bungalow. The pool area however is very limited and to be fair undersized for the complex.

We spent most of our evenings at the Faro in Meloneras as we got tired on the multiple hawkers trying to man handle you into their bars/restaurants at the other C.C's. It is also very relaxed and a great place to watch the sunset every evening. If walking back in the evening, from here or the beach, avoid the chacco as the mosquitos come out in force.

So why the low score you ask if everything else is so good? Well the main reason I go to Gran Canaria, more than the sun and sangria, is to relax. We spend our days away from the apartments and come back in the afternoon/evening to cool down and get ready for the evening and I found this very hard to do in these bungalows.

The bungalows have very little natural light entering them (only one window) so to achieve privacy we had to close the shutters which plumets the room into darkness. Another knock on is that it is very hard to get air into the bungalow without leaving the doors open which then invites bigger insects in. Every room also had at least two ant entry points including one right next to the beds. It was quiet amazing how many dead ants I would find in the sheets with us every morning. The rooms were also full of flies despite our best efforts to stop them untill I realsied they were in the lighht fittings.

As a result we found it very hard to relax while in the apartments due to the constant slapping and itching. And we go to Gran Canaria to relax!

To give credit some of the bungalows are now being renovated and once that is completed El Palmeral will be one of the nicest complex's in the Faro2 area. Until then I will not return to El Palmeral.

    Fantastic holiday for all

    from anonymous

For the last six years my family and i have visited gran canaria, and on each visit without hesitation have stayed at the el palmeral bungalows. the bungalows are clean and efficient. the staff are fantastic especially maria and juan carlos who go out of their way to help you enjoy a fantastic holiday. a two minute walk from the bungalows is the shopping centre faro 2 where you will find an array of bars and restraunts as well as a variety of shops including the versace shop for all you designer fans. there is no entertainment on site at el palmeral but a 5 minute taxi ride or for the more energetic a 20 minute walk will take you into playa de ingles where you will find a variety of pubs and clubs to suit every taste. My families age range is from 16 to 72 and there is something for everyone.

    Absolutely brilliant.

Stayed in 2003. Can't say anything but: brilliant. The staff were EXTREMELY friendly. Very clean. Comfortable beds. Spotless bed linen. Definitely recommend it. Barman was very helpful, and even brought the food over to our bungalow! The pool was VERY clean. Very close to Faro 2 which was excellent. Overall, a great holiday - great memories.

    Very nice Bungalows

    from anonymous

Me (21) James, my boyfriend (26). Went to Maspalomas in August 04' The hotel is in a good location. The rooms are very nice and spacious and I didn't see any bugs! The pool area is nice. Staff are very friendly and helpful especially Fabion and Ali who work round the pool. They will recommend some good places to visit. The rooms get cleaned regulary and the maids are also happy! The only let down is no air con and it's so hot out there! Oh and you can hear the music at the Faro 2 Centre till quite late. There is a good supermarket in the Faro 2 shopping centre but the one at the hotel is also good for little bits.

You have to get taxi's everywhere, but they are extremely cheap. I would definately recommened hiring a car. The sand dunes are definately worth visiting. There are lots of nice beaches in the area but the best beach is Anfi Bay, which is going towards Peuto Rico. Pueto de Morgan is the prettist town around with lovely restaurants on the harbour. For romantic restaurants visit Melonaras, its right along the sea front and where all the posh hotels are. That is also the best place for shopping.

We wanted to have some mad nights out, the best place for this is Playa des Ingles. It has lots of good bars and gets loud and lively.

We done 2 trips, Camel riding was brilliant, but not for the faint hearted as it's in the mountains. It was a lot of fun though, I even got a big kiss from one of the camels!

The other trip was very disapointing- Whale of a Day- We didn't see any dolphins or Whales and you are stuck on the boat the whole day it the boiling sun. You get to ride on a jet ski, which was good but you had to pay more money to do that. It was a complete take on.

It really is a good idea to hire a car and get around the place yourself, as there are so many beautiful places to find.

Overall, this was a brilliant holiday and hotel was very clean and comfortable.

    Home from home

Me, my niece & sister-in-law went to El Palmeral on 3rd July 2004 for my nieces 16th birthday pressie. We had a great time & felt like we were in our own bungalow. The place was very clean & the atmosphere around the pool was great. We also had maid service every day bar one. We even had a small earthquake while there (I mean very small cause we didn't feel anything) This did however cause a problem for our pool which was cracked in the morning but the staff there couldn't do enough to sort the problem. They provided the use of the pool opposite immediately and refunded any taxi fares to the beach. The staff on reception were lovely, friendly and willing to give help and advice. There was a shopping centre about 2 mins away and playa del ingels was a very short taxi ride away. There was a camel park on the way to the beach where you could go for a ride, which lasts approx 20-30mins, thro the dunes well worth doing! All in all a lovely place to stay, quite, clean and friendly. Definately go back there.

    Good value apartments

    from anonymous

Having just returned from a week at the El Palmeral apartments in Maspalomas i would recommend these bungalows for there peace and quite, cleanlyness and overall atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were cleaned daily with fresh linen and towels twice a week. we chose it having checked the reviews and it lived up to them. The only negative thing I would say is that the poole is not as clean as it should be. a 3 minute walk is a shopping complex called Faro2 which has a supermarket and a couple of dozen restaurants.

All in all an enjoyable place to stay.

    Lovely hooneymoon atmosphere

    from anonymous

as newleyweds my husband and i stayed at the palmeral in august 2002 we were there for our hooneymoon and everything was perfect from the fluffy towels in the bathroom to the lovely terrace that we sat on every night sipping our very reasonably priced wine.the pool was small but very clean as were all the facillities.the people at the poolside bar were lovely and really knew how to have fun.all the ammenities are just literelly around the corner and we had a lot of laughs and fun at the faro 2 centre before heading off home to our terrace all in all a lovely place to stay even if you have children they wont get bored we will most definately be going back soon also the aqua sur water park is brilliant.viva el palmeral
