Historical Traveler Reviews of El Monte Sagrado Living Resort Taos

EMS - deserves a rating higher than 5!

from A TripAdvisor Member
If I could rate EMS more than 5, I would. A stay here is worth every penny! The spa services were fantastic - can't say enough about my spa specialist, Jennifer! Also some of the qigong classes with John Crowl made me feel great! Peaceful, calming, healthy with superb amenities! Can't wait to return!

Subtle and Serene

from A TripAdvisor Member
The resort is so well integrated into the neighborhood it was easy to drive right by it. There was nothing garish or ostentatious here. All the details were well executed down to the ironwork in the common areas and the rugs and wallhangings in the room. For me, sitting outside and overlooking the Sacred Circle was pure serenity.

Absolutely loved the Anaconda Bar and Restaurant

from A TripAdvisor Member
My fiance and I and another couple had dinner last weekend at the El Monte Sagrado restaurant. The food was fantastic! The presention was immaculate, everything was cooked to perfection! The wine steward, Ken Collura was very knowledgeable and selected the perfect wines for our dining. Afterwards we spent the evening listening to Linda Cotten in the Anaconda Bar. She is fantastic! I highly recommend making the trip just to hear her! The only recommendation I can provide at this time is to enlarge the dancing area! We had a memorable evening!

You must have dessert!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Friends in Taos took me to the Anaconda Bar where we shared a variety of desserts--that was the best choice we could have made! The pastry chef is a genius, a goddess, a gem. Can I take this woman home with me?

The food was okay; nothing unique or unusual (I'm spoiled living in NYC), but the sweets were spectacular. Unique flavor combinations (blackberry espresso sorbet!) and delightful presentations...each plate was a masterpiece almost too good to eat, almost. Next time we will skip food entirely and just order dessert.

Relax in luxury at El Monte!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We loved the sitting room and our patio with the view of the ponds. Our bathroom was large and well supplied with towels. The huge bathtub and the shower were great to relax in. The decor was unique and restful. The bedroom was quiet and comfortable. The resturant and bar are beautifully decorated and the food, delicious! Many tasty choices. I will stay there again!

Great Place to Stay

from A TripAdvisor Member
What an incredible place to stay!!! This resort is a work of art, I stayed in Egypt what an amazing room. My wife and I are wine enthusiasts and we delighted to know that there was a Master Sommelier on property. We spent time with Ken and he helped to make our dinner even better. Kudos to the owner for building a resort like this and making it completely NON SMOKING!

Needs a General Manager That is on top of things.

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Hotel for several days since we read about the owner

and all the wonderful work he had done for the community and the resort.

Upon arrival we found the General Manger, Ms. Leann Ray to be

misleading on her information. We asked if the resort had a concierge

and specifically a Les Clef d'Or Member, Concierge. They did not. They

had staff that was working the check in desk and doubling as a

concierge. Since we travel all over the world many times per year we

know what we are looking for. It was a disappointment to have such

lacking service. The Valets seemed to not know we were staying there.

The Room Service never answered the phone and the restaurant went into

voice mail. We had to check out and relocate. I wish the owner would

reevaluate it's management.

Anaconda Bar

I came in to Taos to ski and was recommended to eat and have drinks at the El Monte Sagrado. The food and service in the resturant was great.

We had drinks in their very cool bar after dinner and found that the drinks were even better. It has a very cool vibe about it. If only I would have known about it before coming I would have satyed there also.

There is no other place like it in Taos and for some of us that like to be in an establishment that has higher standards than the rest in Taos, it is a nice change. I will be staying there next ski season! and recommend it to anyone going to Taos.

Luxury in the southwest

from A TripAdvisor Member
We just came back from a stay at the El Monte Sagrado and found it to be a super-fun and exotic little resort. The details of the rooms and the layout were fascinating. Our experience was that the staff was quite attentive (paid attention but left us alone when we neded privacy) but we had some problems operating the room heating/cooling.

The setting was beautiful and it was easy to explore Taos from the resort. The spa experience was as good as any we had been to, also. The food was excellent and we loved the bar. We highly recommend the resort.

Not worth the price

from quiettraveler
After reading the literature from the resort, I had such high expectations, but after staying there I would not recommend it. If you are looking for a quiet room, this is not the place. The room layout is such that the bedroom windows are right next to the front door of the next room, thus you can hear everyone talking at their door and the door slamming. Room service does not answer the phone, so ordering is next to impossible - we had to go through the resort operator and leave voice mail at the restaurant. Even though they were only at 40 percent occupancy (and it is a small resort), the valet could not remember us (we even had a resort pass in the car window). The hot tub is small so you can't always get a space. If you have ever visited a high-end spa, you will see how overpriced this one is. We are used to being able to take advantage of other services (hot tob, sauna, relaxation room, etc.) when paying that kind of price for a massage. Save the money, stay at one of the many other hotels and spend it having fun while in Taos.
