In the morning we ate only small amounts because we were going to Nazca airport at 10am for our eagerly-anticipated flight over the Nazca Lines. After Juan gave us a lift to the airport and we had paid airport tax we were soon waiting patiently outside for our slot. After half an hour or so we were called over and made our way across the air field past a varied array of small planes until we got to ours. The girls were quite nervous, but me and Tom were nothing but excited. The pilot arrived ...
Huacachina, Peru alastair6Tom and Nicki got up early, but me and Claire slept in til 11.30am as we were very tired. When we were up Tom and Nicki returned briefly then went off to do a bit of sand-boarding with boards they had just rented themselves. In the meantime, me and Claire went for lunch in the hotel restaurant, and amused ourselves playing with the parrot who lives in the garden. This parrot spends a lot of time grooming himself with his beak, but says "Hola!" to you if you say it to him, and after fixing you...

Huacachina, Peru alastair6 We didnīt do all that much in the last few days, just chilled out really, and were really quite lazy.
August 6
I was a bit disappointed because the sun didnīt really come out at all; having done a mammoth blogging session the day before when the weather was all lovely and hot, it was rather unfair that it was overcast when I wanted to get in a day of sunbathing. My t-shirt suntan is getting seriously out of hand and needs sorting!
We went on the internet a bit at Desert Night...
Hello All!! Today we are writing to you from a small town outside Ica that goes by the funky name of Huacachina (pronounced waka-cheena). It a sort of oasis town...it surrounds a lagoon that is the only bit of water in kilometres of sand dunes. Its got palm trees, paddle boats, the whole kit and caboodle! Paridse (sort of) hehe. We have only just arrived and are now killing time before our sandboarding tour/class this arvo...could be interesting!
So anyway, I guess Iīd better fill you ...
Ica/ Huacachina Picture a pretty oasis of a lake nestled right in the middle of milky brown walls of endless sand dunes, palm trees with bundles of dates hanging off their branches...Egypt, you're thinking? Think again...this is southern Peru! A once upon a time resort for Peru's imperial class, this place gets a lot of local tourists on the weekends, looking to picnic in the sand, and paddleboat or kayak around the picturesque lake. It's so popular, it's on the back of the 50 Sole note. As s...

Huacachina, Peru evabongLeaving Cusco bone weary we were happy to get back to sea level in Lima. Although it was a bit hit and miss for a while as to if our flight would actually leave Cusco. Again StarPeru and again I would not fly with them ever again. After another crazy taxi ride from the airport of Lima to Barranco this time with the boot flying open at every bump, the car needing to be restarted every few kilometers and the rest of the car barely holding together we finally arrived at our hostel with me in fit...
Huacachina, Peru gareth.alannaGot in to Ica after a pretty long bus ride from Cusco, managed to pick up a pretty cheap taxi to Huacacina, and found an amzing hostel (complete with pool, bar and pretty decent food- felt like a mini holiday resort) called el huacacinero. Huacacina is an cool place, right in the middle of the desert, all these hostels and restaurants just sprung up around the lake, like a lil' modern day oasis. Sandboarding is pretty much the aim of the place, and it was unbelievable. You get taken up in dun...
