... cogwheel railway. We then boarded a steam paddle boat back to Luzern. Great tour guides - Manfred and Maya!
We have now ascended three mountains in Switzerland. Had awesome weather. Everyone here is cutting the silage, lots of farms on the hillsides of the mountains with cute swiss chalet type houses.

... not to be missed. People compete to see how ugly they can make their masks, which are meant to chase the winter away.

Last night, dinner outside by one of the town's reflecting pools (and, as it turns out, under the roof of the airport runway), a stroll through an adjacent area frequented by students (where beer is cheaper - only $5 for a can of Bud), and into the train station to check into schedules for our return to Basel today. ... along the lake.

Very scenic and lots of restaurants along there so we met up and walked back along the lake for a drink on top of an outdoor swimming pool.

If that sounds weird it's because it is. Basically they have fenced off a bit of lake and erected bathhouses for changing and a bar and roof terrace to have a drink. The water isn't heated and because it's sheltered, had a lot (like sushi factory farm quantities) of tiny ...

... stir and confusion - and all this is fitting, for lions do die in such places, and not on granite pedestals in public squares fenced with fancy iron railings. The Lion of Lucerne would be impressive anywhere, but nowhere so impressive as where he is". How lovely. He further described it as, "the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world". I have to agree, the lions face seemed full of expression and grief and was wonderful.

... in a wine sauce). The prices here in Switzerland are much higher than they were in Germany; this meal cost over CHF80, and would have cost half that price on the other side of the border.

So our first taste of the Swiss Alps was excellent! Hope we can come back later and spend more time here. Tomorrow, we are heading back north to the Rheinfall, then the Black Forest area, and we plan to stay in Baden-Baden overnight.
