... the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution when revolutionaries, having little else to do, stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris, and then went for a croissant and latte. Aside: Mark Twain found the statue to be the most moving piece of carved stone in the world!

We took a guided walking tour of the city, visiting, among other sites - the bahnhof (train station where we arrived) - designed by the famous architect Calatrava ...

... t actually included in our lunchtime cruise. Sorry?? Hmmm very good at the fine print these Swiss. No wonder people trust them with the "secret" bank accounts.

The lake cruise, which really is just the normal ferry, was nice and relaxing with great views of the flash houses, green hills and mountains in the distance.

We decided on a good long walk before we left for Lucerne and really enjoyed it, once again appreciating all the amazing views, including fields of buttercups, cute little chalets and as usual the sound of cow bells. David was very impressed with some of the wood stacks...and he thought his wood stacking skills were good!!? We were gone for two hours with some good hills included. Next morning, after breakfast at the hotel (included in the price and all you can eat!) we set off for the Old Town which was only a few blocks away.
