A STORY OF LOVES

... extra-elevated; when I'm hanging out in the jacuzzis, I can see the ocean on both sides of the ship. Today, from my hot tub perch, I could see two continents at once. Africa was on the port side, and Europe was on starboard....so cool. I looked to Africa and saw a low-lying city, followed by rough but rounded rocky outcroppings, splashed with grassy fields. In Europe, I saw the same type of geologic formations, played out as the Rock of Gibraltar. The QM2 slid between these two ...

Tarifa - Kite surfing capital of Europe!

... the lever on the roof of my convertible. He rubs his head and politely assures me hes fine...I'm not so sure...With no more incidents we get back to find my tent pitched - with the minimum of tent pegs and only a few sags that Nadia points out are not important as its not windy (now!) . We crack open the beers, share some tortilla..and prepare for some fun.

Couch surfers are some of the friendliest people on the planet. At least it seems that way. Everyone politely ...

The Evil in Seville

... Carrie hailed a cab. Then Carrie paid the cab. Carrie pushed me up the steps. Carrie saw me flop down in bed. Carrie - she laughs as she says this - she heard me let out multiple ***** of varying tones all with a drunken and unconscious grin on my face. Carrie exorcised the demons in the bathroom. Carrie crashed. Tim woke up. Where the hell am I? I'm awake and leaning over something. Damn, it is the bidet. The aliens took ...

Back in Europe.

... sad indeed. It wasn't long before I had to get back to the hotel where a bus was due to pick me up and take me back to the port. Walking home the heavens opened again, and I got soaked. Freezing cold, wet right through and dying to get back to Spain (which oddly felt like home now), it was time to go. I got back to Tarifa that night and stayed in a hostel Shane had recommended. Africa may only be a few miles away, but it was good to be back in Europe.

Spanish Pirates, We Can See Africa, Transit Time

... Africa from the beach here. We were very excited when we first glimpsed this land and knew we would be hitting its shores after a 35minute ferry ride. Our passports were stamped by Moroccan police onboard the ferry, easy. Nadine celebrated the entering of Morocco by purchasing some Duty Free Quality Street chocolates for me that we immediately started eating whilst crossing the Strait Of Gibralter that would take us from Spain into the port in Tangier, Morocco.

Morocco - days 13 to 15

... us going to Tarifa so we caught the ferry together, sitting right up the front in what we assume was first class. We even got to see some dolphins jumping out of the water in front of us with was very cool. I was so glad that my hostel was only a short walk from the port as i was very tired and in need of a good sleep in a real bed. I managed to get on skype for a while to call home and wish my sister a happy birthday, before tragedy struck and Larry ...

Tangier

... was well and truly exhausted by the end of it. He did take me round and round in circles though. I don't know if this was to make the place look bigger than it was or just to keep me confused. All can say is that he worked hard for his 10 Euro and I enjoyed the Tour. The room on the other hand had a flip side. The Mosque outside the window had a very loud speaker and every time it was prayer time I got it it full blast.

DAY 59 - MARCH 3, 2007

DAY 59 - MARCH 3, 2007 Sal-om, Walh-ay-com. Walh-ay-com, Sal-om. The above is a typical greeting in Arabic. Needless to say, I butchered the phonetic spelling, but you get he gist ... I hope. My trip to Morocco may have been the most intriguing of my life. I went with my entire studying abroad program; it was my first trip to Africa as well as my first trip to an Islamic nation. I saw three cities: Tanger, Tetouan, and Chefchaouen. All three make you see the world ...

Back to Spain

We were so nervous about making it back to Spain to pick up our rental car that we actually completely skipped a day in our heads and arrive in Algeciras a day before we were supposed to. Algeciras wasn't exactly a tourist town. We needed another destination... *** We arrived in Tangier around 10 the next morning. We had no money and no map, so we started walking. We quickly hit the shoreline ...

The medina of Fes

... and our guide had to talk him back in. He said that he didn't understand our way of buying. The whole process was interesting but I quickly grew tired of the sales pitch and it was becoming obvious that we would be taken from store to store until it was too dark to see. We saw Berber rugs, woodcrafts, herbs, and some robes. The herbs were pretty cool, and a young guy gave us a speech in Spanish, memorized, about various herbs. Tai bought some tea for insomniacs. The last ...
