Historical Traveler Reviews El Encanto Inn San Jose Del Cabo
Our group loved the place....
Hey, for a funky hotel in old San Jose, this place can't be beat. We had absolutely no problems. We enjoyed the walks to the area's great restaurants, one located just 20 steps away (Morgan's Encore). The only word of advice: Spend the extra $30 to get one of the newer pool area suites. And have their breakfast out by the pool. Great food, great price.....
Real Mexican Hotel-quiet and relaxing
We loved the El Encanto and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay at a small, quiet, non-resort hotel. It is in an excellent location, away from the crowds but within easy walking distance of banks, markets, some great (if a little expensive) restaurants, and tourist shopping. The restaurant is outdoors in a beautiful garden setting and the food was great! At the end of a paved road, it is very quiet, with virtually no traffic noise, and right across the street from a great panaderia (bakery). The staff was so helpful when we had to make some travel changes at the last minute. We will definitely return to this hotel when traveling to Baja.
Charming & Comfortable
We stayed at El Encanto Inn for one night and were very happy with the accomodations. Our room was in the older part of the property. The owners recently purchased another inn just across the street; those rooms are larger & were being upgraded during our stay.
Our room was very nice. The beds were comfortable & the room was very clean & quiet. The staff were pleasant & helpful. The location is very good--within 2 blocks of the central plaza, shops & many restaurants.
If you want to avoid the glitz & tourism of Cabo san Lucas & San Jose del Cabo beachfront hotels, El Encanto Inn is an excellent choice.
They stole my money
In the past I was satisfied with my stays but they have overbuilt and are in financial trouble. They double charged my credit card. When I called them she ( the owner) said she would sent me a refund, not credit the card back. I didnt realize that by waiting I went past the time for which I could challenge the charge with Visa. The owner Blanca has repeatedly lied to me about sending me a refund it is 9 months later no refund. Needless to say I wouldnt stay there.
Good Choice for San Jose
El Encanto is an above average choice for San Jose...value for the price, good location. Great little courtyard in the main hotel, and attractive garden / pool in the suites area. One warning: stay away from room 209, it looks out over the band stage of the new restaurant next door, and it gets pretty loud at night.
We have just returned from San Jose and were very happy about our accomidations at the inn. We stayed at one of the poolside rooms and were very pleased with our entire experience. The room was nicely furnished and very clean. The staff was excellent and very helpful. The inn is walking distance from the square and all the shopping, restaurants etc. The inn was quiet and very cozy. The inn provides a daliy continental breakfast at the end of the poolside which provides one a chance to meet the other guests which is an added plus if you want to find out where all the good restaurants are in town. If you want a good margarita at a great price I would suggest the Aquario right by the tropicana inn on the Mijares blvd-try the one with hornitos tequila on the rocks-highly recommened
A very pleasant experience.
As first-time visitors to this area, we (seniors) were pleased with these accomodations. Clean, quiet and close to the town square, church, shopping sites, etc. Office help was fine but be persistent because of slight language problems at times. A highlight- a wonderful bakery across the street from the office. We were at the relatively new suites a half-block away. Very nice landscaping, spacious room with TV, excellent king size bed. At $95 we think it was a fair price. Decision to stay in San Jose (versus San Lucas) was excellent. Took public transit locally and it worked well. Take some tours. Ask at desk for brochures as well as to make reservations. We were there 1/2 -1/9/04.
Best place to stay in San Jose!
Lovely and charming hotel two blocks from the central plaza. The original hotel itself (the "Inn") is in a very nice and quiet courtyard with wonderful landscaping. About 20 or so very nice rooms with a/c, etc. There are some newer suites up the street in a nice courtyard with pool called Encanto Suites. Guests of the Inn can use the pool. If you're looking for a nice place in town that's reasonably priced and only a 20-30 minute walk to the beach, El Encanto Inn is the place!
I chose a standard room and was very happy with the accomodations. Free breakfast was included and was also excellent. The pool wasn't heated, but during the hot season, it would be just perfect. Wonderful setting, very private, safe and clean.
We recently returned from a trip to San Jose del Cabo. We stayed at El Encanto Inn and found it to be an excellent Inn. The staff are very helpful and attentive. Rooms are clean and comefortable. Location is great - close to the town center and shopping. Many excellent restaurants are close. A true flavor of the Baja. Highly recommended

Today we woke to another 'gourmet' breakfast and head straight down to the beach under the beaming sun. We went to the marina end to avoid the crowds and hawkers and it was perfect. Leesh soaked up the sun while I built a sand castle to keep amused. We once again saw our seal friend barking in the water as we lay there in peace. Next thing, Leesh is yelling and saying she's been stung by a bee haha and the stinger was still stuck in her skin just above her bikini ...

The best part of being here is snorkeling in Cabo Pulmo Marine park. Bill can tell you how to get there. They have palapas in the shade to hang out and you can snorkel from the shore. The caretaker will also fix you fish tacos and fresh Ceviche, which was cheap and delicious! The food was better than most places in town. Cooked over a wood fire grill and ...
... I hung out on an enclosed deck for about an hour drinking there signature tequila drink and felt it was time for me to move on. The real party crowds don't go to Cabo Wabo till after 11 PM and I had no intention in getting mixed in with that crowd.
What was amazing to me is that getting home seemed to take a whole lot longer then getting to Cabo. I don't know if it was sun stroke or just general tiredness but I think it took like ...

Well, we made it. The food was great, and the deck had a view of all the fancy boats in the marina. We walked back 1.5 miles on the road, across the verrry loooongggg bridge (over no water) into San Jose, then caught the Urbano home the rest of the way.
That pretty much killed the day ... and we're a couple of pooped ...
