Carretera Arcos-El Bosque Arcos de la Frontera, Costa de la Luz, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands, 956-231402
... I saw a bullfight my first week here and it really wasn't my cup of tea, but it was interesting to be where all the action takes place. I then proceeded to go exploring on my own, which I actually do quite frequently. I love people but I find I really enjoy some things better when I make my own experience not surrounded by what everyone else wants to do. I started by going down into the Ronda Gorge, which literally looks like a city built on a cliff. It is just ...
Ronda, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands aperiseeWe got up really early (for us vacationers). It was about 8:15am. We decided we would drive 2 hours to a city called Jerez de la Frontera to see the famous dancing horses of Jerez. The tour guide said it was worth the drive... We arrived to another city. Not as big as Seville, but a city nonetheless. Shae was super excited to see the dancing horses. The show started at noon and lasted 1.5 hours. Shae lasted about 20 minutes - which was pretty good for her ...
Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain stacicheck... Benalauria. The restaurant was an old converted olive mill. It was very cool inside and had 3 levels and an outside terrace for dining. We started off outdoors, but the bee's were scaring us so we moved indoors and sat next to a woman who was in her late 70's holding court with her 3 friends. She spoke 7 languages and was really interesting to talk to. It was nice meal. Again, great salads! We headed back to town and decided to eat in and pack up our things ...
Montejaque, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands stacicheck... took us about 30 minutes to get to Grazalema and we fell in love with it as we were driving in. It's set in the hillside but is surrounded by national forest land. I've said it a hundred times about how beautiful the scenery is, but this by far was our favorite. It was breathtaking. The village was so cute set up a bit more for tourists than where we're staying. It has a great square where everyone was meeting. Monday ...
Grazalema, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands stacicheck... the left and right side of the castle walls were big round gun turrets from WWII.

I wanted to stop up the coastal road at Cape Trafalgar, site of Lord Nelson’s famous 1805 naval battle that sent him home in a spirits barrel – preserved. I read a pocketbook about the battle about a year ago. Nelson’s ships-of-the-line aggressively attacked the superior French fleet after ...
Arcos de la Frontera, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands thedicksons... wall, a church, and a Parador in which we are to spend the night. We check in, and I quickly discover the Parador also sports a terrace on the second floor, with lounge chairs, overlooking the cliff and everything beyond. I plop down into a lounge chair and turn off for awhile. After a little break we go for a walk through the city. The sun is setting beyond the cliff, casting increasingly golden rays upon the town buildings. Every once in ...
Arcos de la Frontera, Spain partnerinflight... Though there was a bit of sweating involved, we sat through it as humbly as we could and made all the effort in the world to stand up, mumble and sit down in all the right places. We got out an hour later. We said nothing. No questions, suggestions or ideas. There was no need. We walked straight to the nearest restaurante. Cervezas y tapas. Muchas. Sublime. Rounder. Heavier.. Tapas count:- 21
Olvera and Arcos de Frontera, Spain scottwoz... our second day in town. After eating breakfast with locals downstairs in the pension's restaurant, taking a historical walking tour of the old town with a personal guide, and joining in for the easily acquired tradition of Spanish siesta, we followed the townspeople to a tiny square in front of the Cathedral of St. Peter. Young, old, teenaged cutups, gossips, cigar smoke, families, soccer jerseys, local press, bells, scattered tourists, and eventually regional politicians ...
Arcos de la Frontera, Spain the_stammsHere we are, slept in today, I love days I can do that, woke up around noon or so, really enjoy the break from actually having to get up. The locals do the same thing so it's appropriate. There was a bit of a translation issue. we had to ask for sandwiches to take to cordoba yesterday, well she understood we would be gone till sunday somehow. so no dinner last night and no lunch today. Which wasn't a big deal, the break from her food is kind of ...
