Next day we followed our GPS all over God's green earth to the Palm Springs tram which took us up the mountain to 8,500 feet. Made the Tufie all shaky but we had a great lunch up there (see pix). The gondola rotates a full 360 degrees twice on the ascent/descent so it's very cool. But that created the urgent need for a dam, which created the Hoover Dam in Black Canyon. The Salton Sea became a resort area with upscale communities springing up on its edges, but as the sea has no natural influx, it has receded over the decades, leaving it briny, unfit for fish or anything else, and the towns virtually abandoned. Interesting to see them, but pitiful just the same.
