San Luis Potosi - An Interesting City

... brain, chitterlings (pig's large intestine), trotters (feet), heart, head (of pigs, calves, sheep and lamb), kidney, liver, "lights" (lung), sweetbreads (thymus), tongue, snout (nose), and tripe (stomach) from various mammals are common menu items. Source: http://www.reference.com/browse/offal OK, call it a cultural difference or whatever but here is where I draw the line and let other people enjoy these delicacies. From the ...

San Luis Potosi - A Different Kind of Christmas

... piñatas filled with candies and toys. The blind folded children are invited to take turns whacking at a suspended piñata till one of the children manages to break it and spill its bounty to the great pleasure of all. This process is carried on in various neighborhoods in the days leading up to Christmas. It was truly a moment of joy when we got wrapped up in our first posada in Angangeou. While we were content watching as spectators, we were ...

day 44- San Luis Potosi

... us on old back streets. We decided to pick up a couple of Spanish books, which we plan to read together to work on our language skills once we're home. Our third outing was a long walk with a dinner break. We apparently found the red light district on this trip! Dinner was at a restaurant at the corner of the street our hotel is on-- I had good chicken enchiladas in mole. We wandered around until about 9:30, just enjoying the night.

day 43- Queretaro to San Luis Potosi

WEATHER: mostly overcast, few sprinkles, pleasantly warm. TOTAL MILEAGE: 132.1 miles All currency is in pesos. After running a few errands (including a camera stop- $50 each, a decent price- at the drugstore across from the hotel), we were on our way, to San Luis Potosi. We traveled through my favorite kind of scenery- high desert. There were a couple of burros and quite a few sheep, including one especially cute ...

Hitching With El Gordo

... that we had missed the first time round. We arrived at the town to discover that it was a bit of a grebit hole, but we were determinded to get to Parquee La Venta (the big luscious park in the middle of this nasty polluted city). We walked around a big lake with crocodiles inside and got to the site - finally - we wanted to see this for 6 months! We entered to see the saddest sight ever, a hole with a rusty manky climbing frame and lots of sad and sick looking monkeys, they looked like ...

Heading Inland

... with channel after channel of (free) porn that we started to put 2 and 2 together. And we were left with little doubt once we noticed that the first 4 or 5 items on the room service menu were condoms and there were flyers on the bedside tables advertising sex toys. It tuns out that in Mexico there is more that separates "motels" and "hotels" then where you park your car. Given this, and the fact that we were told in the morning that $32 had in fact only bought us ...

Merry Christmas!...and Happy New Year!!

... floor in a grocery store in Mexico, the nearest person (or maybe the nearest gringo) is charged for it! It doesn't matter if you touched the pasta, or shelf, or really came anywhere near it. It's a very amicable sort of extortion though, much better than that $200 Jack Daniels & coke I bought in Paris a few years ago (another story). They didn't say anything, they just charged me for it and put it in my bag at checkout. They were nice enough ...

San Miguel de Allende

Note: As most of you know, Paul has written most of the travel logs, with Laura acting only as the editor. This next entry is strictly a Laura entry. Monday morning, as we were eating our huevos revueltos (a rather violent name for scrambled eggs if you ask me...) I started getting homesick. It is hard to have to think every time you open your mouth. (Since I'm the one who "speaks" Spanish, and I use that term loosely, I've been doing most of the talking. Paul is actually doing ...

Zacatecas

... to be a small mansion, with antiques, chandeliers, wide screen TV and lovely bedrooms - it was great being in a house! Zacatecas is famous for its street performers. On weekends musicians gather on street corners. Once there is a bit of a crowd they start to walk around the town, the crowd follows and is served drinks as they go...lots of fun!
