Where is Paddington Bear?

... leaders described it.....which in reality was actually a quarry camp! We rocked up at dusk to a blatantly active quarry, which was far from the scene I´d pictured in my head but was in fact just the job. We had a great time there.
At this stage of the tour we were 11 days in so there were a few of us (most) that were becoming less in control of bowl movements than we´d been used to. Luckily I didn´t have to make an emergency stop en route, unlike 2 other guys. But ...

Chan Chan and Gringo Catches the Fish!

... the day before and I was in no mood to barter for a toilet and a bed for the day. Besides which, it had hammocks and a nice table and chairs outside each room, along with a terraced restaurant overlooking the sea. We needed comfort and that´s what we got..

After a rest and a well needed shower to scrape away the dirge from our aching bodies, we flagged down a taxi to take us to the ruins. The morning mist was clearing and the sun was beginning to poke its ...

Bienvenidos Peru

... as Ellen was quiet good in staying on the board. ;-) After that adventure, we enjoyed the quiet sea live of Huanchaco, definitely a recomandation for every gringo who is passing by the North of Peru.

Tomorrow we are going to visit the different sites of Chan Chan, which is a part of the Chimu civilization in Peru. After that visit we will show Huanchaco the last time that we are true Bourgondiers and then we will take the nightbus to Huaraz.

Ciao!

... place, this is there to keep wind and sun off the old bricks to prevent it eroding away and also because archiologists are still working at it, uncovering more and more every day, so scafolding and tarps is totally acceptable.

The temple we are inside is the Moon Temple. the Sun temple you cannot enter as it is solid brick. The Moon temple was once filled with bricks too. The reason they are/were bricked in is that every 60-70 ...

Back in Time to Wrap it Up

... I moved quickly in Trujillo and within an hour of arriving, had a hotel, a tour booked for the next day, and dinner in front of me. In the morning, I lazed about my hotel room and mozied out to meet my tour at 11. I had thought to visit Trujillo's archaeological sites on my own, but again with the safety thing. When I found out that for $8, I could get transport to five sites and a guide for a full day, my mind was made up.

The tour was a Spanish affair (it's been three days since I ...

parting ways for the day

... tomorrow for Chachapoyas. So we turned around to head to the market when a motorcycle with two cops pulled up right beside us. The first cop jumps out and immediately separates us. 2 more cops walk up from around the corner. I could hear the guy shouting “vamos a terminal para comprar boletos” (we’re just going to the bus station to buy tickets). The cop asked me what I was doing and why I was with this guy. I told him the guy asked me questions ...

Lazy final days

... thing about Huancacho is the fisherman who go out to fish twice a day on reed boats. These are quite simply bunches of reeds tied together. These boats look pretty insubstantial (did I mention that they're just reeds?) and the ocean, as I said, is pretty rough round here. Remarkably, the reed boats are designed to ride over the waves like a surfboard... I didn't really believe this until I saw it. Amazing - the boats, paddled with a ...

... until full, then speeds off into town. It was on this journey that I encountered the now infamous Granny Binbags. Five minutes in, and the most bedraggled-looking urchin of an old woman crawled aboard, complete with a huge black bin bag containing god knows what. Despite the clear availability of other seats, she chose to sit next to me. Far too close. The seats were so crammed together that this resulted in me sitting practically in the giving ...

Going to the beach and the Chan Chan

... that were on it, got off at the same stop. All of a sudden we saw a commotion just outside the colectivo. Two guys had gotten off without paying for their fare; the driver then got off to demand the money; the driver and the guys landed up having a fight on the side of the street, while the rest of us waited inside in the colectivo for them to finish. After realising that they were not going to pay, the driver got back on the colectivo. It was at this ...

Trujillo in Transit

... only due to the general lack of rain along the Peruvian coast. It makes you wonder what else came and went and left no trace in areas far more inhabitable. For this is the area where the sunny beaches to the north give way to the bleak southern coast, 'bleak’ not necessarily meaning rainy.
